The thread about letting the dogs out has been great. Many thanks to Josh for starting it and all who took part. I hope this also will be knowledgeable and appreciative. Maybe someone will take on a thread with birds.

This is another WOW gun!!!

That's a high serial number. How far away is that from the last gun made? Remington could sure turn out some nice stuff.

I don't think Remington had anything to do with the production of this gun. After the Remington buyout in 1934 the transitioning from Parker Bros. guns to Remington-built Parker guns occured around the 236XXX SN range. Last Remington manufactured guns are well up into the 242XXX range. Best specific info on all this is found in TPS.

You guys have better eyes than I do. I can't read the number on that gun. James hasn't told us whether it is a AA or an A-1. I've never seen a Parker with an engraving pattern like that. Is it factory engraving?

Robert Delk 11-26-2012 08:11 PM

Unreal nice. My favorite engraving on a Parker yet.

greg conomos 11-26-2012 08:50 PM

The gun looks great...but keep in mind we are also looking at some very nice photography.

Wow. My bad. I misread the 143xxx as 243xxx. Too much ham and turkey.

Chuck Bishop 11-26-2012 10:01 PM

Jim,

Can you give us a clue on the second gun pictured? What's the approx S/N range and gauge? There is not the typical bottom frame sculpturing on that gun. The picture of the bottom of 143xxx shows the old type of sculpturing before Parker instituted their cost saving measures. After the cost savings were instituted the amount of sculpturing was reduced but I don't see any sculpturing at all on the second gun pictured.

Both are exceptional guns!

From what I can find, the first gun is serial number 143556. According to the Identification and Serialization book that gun is a W8, which is an A-1 Special 16 ga with 30 inch Whitworth
barrels and made in 1907.
I agree, that sculpting on the bottom of the second gun is very unique and was probably done to accommodate the engraving style.

JAMES HALL 11-27-2012 06:30 PM

143556 is the 11th A-1 built. The first 16 ga. Second one is also a 16 ga. 30 in. ejector gun. It is a V grade with Pachmayer embellishments. Must be a pretty good job as no one picked on it and asked what it is. The real one came first so the second did something to make me pull the trigger.

Bill Murphy 11-27-2012 07:07 PM

Come on, James. I didn't think the second gun was a Parker and said so. I also said I couldn't read the serial number, and still can't. It's a pretty neat gun even though it isn't an original Parker. As you know, I will always recognize the great 16 gauge A-1.

Jim, Since everything down that way "flatlands" will be under water after the 21st of Dec you might want to bring those fine guns up here to the mountain to keep them dry. I can always make room. Gary

Robert Delk 11-27-2012 07:25 PM

Lord help me as I like the Pachmayr better. I'm wish they had done more in that restrained style without all the gold that you usually see in their upgrades.

JAMES HALL 04-01-2020 08:12 AM

Craig you can compare the two with brought to top.
