Daly Delight

Hay prices have been rising back on the farm in the hollow.
|
I like the damascus pattern, nice engraving - and intercepting sears?
|
Beautiful piece Bruce, Is it hay or corn that's providing the coin to buy these? gary

Lets see, if a person had 1000 productive acres at 200 bu/acre at $8 corn, I'd say he was doing pretty well. Of course with heart of the cornbelt ground reaching $10,000 to $12,000 /acre, that adds another factor.
Maybe my buddy should put in corn next year instead of hay.....he'd be able to use a checkbook for a Parker if that is permitted. By the way, C has decided to have no more pictures of his guns posted on the forum, too much bad mouthing and mouthing off without knowing or being open minded enough to ask the facts. The thoughtless and frequently wrong statements about the A-1 Special that was expertly embellished further to become the Czar memorial gun were the final straw. I will follow suit with my collection. Last Feb I told others that I would not display at Pheasant Fest again , in large part because of statements here that we were just showing off. I was persuaded to return for 2012 and I have already committed for 2013. I hope we can do Pheasant Fest and the NRA show together, but as of the present , we will not be showing the displayed guns on the forum. Best regards, Bruce Day |
Bruce, Thank you for what you have done. I understand your reasoning. All of your wonderful pictures will be missed. Dave
|
Bruce, I think I can speak for virtually everyone here, with the exception of perhaps one or two, that hopes you and C will reconsider. We all have thoroughly enjoyed what you and C have brought to the forum and what you've done for the PGCA. Thank you! It would be really unfortunate and a big loss for the entire membership of the PGCA Forum to have let the actions of one or two wear you down.

B&C
Gentlemen, there are those few in any and every group that "spoil the joy" and try and diminish the accomplishments of others. Please ignore them!!! Charlie-you have some fantastic guns and have been very very generous is sharing them and promoting Parker Bros and the PGCA . Please continue!! Bruce-you also have some great guns and knowledge of Parkers that would be missed. Your work in displaying y'all guns is greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Do not let the few ruin the joy of the many. David Dwyer |
Bruce ,A couple of years back when I met you at Pin Tail and spent the afternoon visiting with you and discussing Parker Guns and the PGCA etc . it was one of the most enjoyable days I have spent in the Gun Hobby ,all of the Guys welcomed me into the realm with open arms ! I enjoy your knowledgeable posts and especially the pictures ,also I appreciate all of the time you spend promoting Parker Guns and the PGCA ! As for the guns posted here ,this will be a great loss to all of the members as most of us do not have the means to own such guns and some are not yet retired and our work schedules keep us from attending most of the events where these Gems will be displayed , most of us will never get to see such guns! I do not know your Friend " C " but I do hope he would reconsider his position because as for me ,I will miss these posts ! Thank You for the many wonderful posts and I believe I can say that for the Majority of the Guys that regularly gather here to talk and " Show Off " our Guns ! Best ; Russ

Bruce has been thanked 3563 times, nearly all for his pictures. Many of those thanks are from me. I try to push the "Thanks" button every time Bruce posts a picture. Charlie must recognize this gesture that comes every time one of his guns appears on the forum. I don't recall any comments about "showing off" at the Pheasantfest. I display guns at PGCA events and will continue to do so. I don't believe that anyone thinks that displaying Parkers for others to enjoy is a negative activity.
|
I agree with you Bill and do not believe it's the "Thanks" Bruce and Charlie have received when posting of pics of all those wonderful Parkers that have gotten them down, but rather it's the negative statements and name calling that's been posted by one or two when they've done so. I, for one, hope that one or two here haven't ruined it for all the rest of us.
|
Showing off fine guns that one owns is the very soul of this site. I am saddened if a member who shared his collection so well, as the gentlemen in question did, decides to leave us.
My collection of Parkers is meager when compared to the really fine collections that we see within these pages. I enjoy them all and I keep coming back for more. |
Steve is correct ! It's all just "Show & Tell." We're all proud of our "toys" - and we all understand the enjoyment of showing them to other kindred souls.
For me, this is the only way I'll ever get to see such nice Parkers ! From someone who only makes occasional comments on this forum, I will definitely miss these beautiful pictures... |
Col. Day,please don't let the nay saying Philistines get you down.I think there is a very much larger "silent majority" appreciating your efforts much more than you realize.
|
Maybe Bruce should respond to some of these comments on this thread. On another thread, he has gotten religion and agreed that he was a bit hasty in his retreat. Let's hear it here, Bruce. We all appreciate your efforts at sharing information with readers.
|
That's a gorgeous Daly. Don't think I've seen a diamond grade with engraving that deep before. They are the best of the Dalys.
|
Yeah, Richard, there are some closet Prussian Daly collectors in the PGCA. They are some fine guns. I shot some skeet with a nice hammer ten gauge last week.

Envy
Envy is one of the Seven Deadly sins and it has been directed towards two of the stalwarts of the PGCA. The greatest attribute of civilization is when one can cheer on another that has succeeded in his/her chosen field. A loser will never get up off his dead ass and applaud a great performance. He/she would rather snipe, whine, complain, and generally be a PITA. I am taking this opportunity to insert an artist's rendering of these kinds of people.

Thank you John. I will post further but infrequently, and not attempt to boost the forum the way CH and I have done previously.
I'm afraid my friend CH is finished, he has made that plain in four letter words after for no reason one of his prize Parkers was mocked here. I posted several photos of Austin Hogan, who we had just announced was in serious condition, from several years ago when he was strong and vigorous and involved in articles about the Parker intended for Czar Nicolas. Forum participants said nothing about Austin but took the opportunity to rehash the tired story about the Czar gun and worse, to gratuitously badmouth an uninvolved AAHE owned by Charlie and embellished further to what we have called the Czar Memorial Gun. One poster started in on the gun giving him nightmares, talking about raincosts and a Lindberg case, calling it a "strange and mesmerizing gun", and on and on talking about the Maltese Falcon and some sort of grassy knoll, all without provocation or apparent direction. So my good friend has said he will never allow his guns to be shown here and will not forward any photos to me for posting, and he has wiped the forum off his computer and may not visit here again. This from one of the early PGCA members, a director emeritus and one of the principal Parker collectors and one of a handful who has spent thousands of personal money and much time promoting the PGCA. We lost another principal collector several years ago when he posted photos of A grades here, got snotty responses, and left. He has never posted here again and says he won't. I see his guns once in a while, but he will not display them nor post them and so some of the top and most interesting Parkers have been lost to view to enthusiasts. So in my buddy's words, if I post here more, I must enjoy getting kicked in the teeth and he won't . Thanks for your kind comments. Hope to see you at Pheasant Fest in St Paul. |
In the interest of contrast here is a Charles Daley Diamond grade gun, but made much later and by the Japanese. BIG diff.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...VMA211/017.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...VMA211/019.jpg It is still hand engraved and it is pretty nice. Little hand held camera was challenged however. |
beautiful sxs, you just dont see the workmanship anymore, those damascus barrels are awesome, i love the patterns!
|
Since I don't know what in hell Bruce is talking about, I choose to ignore his last post. I don't have any idea who referred to Lindbergh, raincoats, or made any other disparaging remarks about Mr. Herzog's guns. I also have no idea who displayed A Grades and was offended. Out of 1200 members of PGCA, any or all of whom may read this forum, probably no more than two of them are guilty of the offenses that Bruce alludes to. I have always thought that the "Not the Czar's Gun" is a wonderful effort. I have served on the PGCA Jury at the Gold Medal Concours and either did or would have voted for that gun in whatever category it was entered in. If someone made a negative remark about the gun on this forum, he would have used his proper name and Bruce's venom could be directed at that person instead of all 1200 of us. Bill Murphy
|
Yeah what Bill said..........
|
See Kevin McCormack's post of 11/19/2012 at 04:17pm running down my friend's Czar Memorial gun and claiming that it gave him nightmares, followed immediately by Bill Murphy's post at 05:20pm :
" Thank you, Kevin, for your level headed assessment of the Czar's gun situation." ( Bill Murphy) We had discussions about this last week. For the foreseeable future forum viewers will not see photos of guns from one of the finest Parker collections around. As for mine, detailed gun photos will be few and far between. There are plenty of Parkers out there; other people can post photos of their guns for public comment. |

I just re-read this entire thread and the Tsar thread. My conclusion: I'm glad I am a simple man who doesn't hold with all this petty bickering and rehashing old personal grudges. Bruce and Charlie, please continue your pictures and enlightening education of this Parker loving community.
Dave |
Well Eric, you call Charlie. He doesn't like getting kicked in the teeth and neither do I. You talk to him
|
Well I'll give it a try, but it really pisses me off that one person ruined it for all of us.....!
|
Bruce, my reply to Kevin's loosely constucted post was meant to be tongue in cheek. Anyone who read Kevin's post should know that my "level headed" comment was not meant to be a compliment. Sorry my comment was misinterpreted. Bruce, be sure your friend reads this reply. Murphy
|
I'll take your statements at face value and pass them on to my friend.
However, even if more photos are posted ( and there is a wonderful new old $200 grade lifter ) looks like there is a problem with the backdrops used to bring out gun details: From 12-10-2012, 04:22 PM: " Bruce and his sycophants seem fascinated by towels....." Destry Hoffard Not recalling exactly what a sycophant is, I checked: " a servile self-seeking flatterer" and related: " bootlicker, brownnoser, flunky, suck-up...." Merriam-Webster |
.
..........................................:corn: . |
Bruce,
I don't care if a discarded bath towel or a piece of shag carpet is used for a background, I would like the gun no matter what it was sitting on!!! |

Chris Lien seems amused by the insults. Chris, post photos of your Parker collection so that others may comment. |
Chris and I are working on a photo display for the future.
|
Someone needs to apologize to col. Day and Mr. Herzog.
|
Robert, you have the same problem Bruce Day does. When either of you have a problem with someone, you don't specify whom the heck it is that is the offender. If we're going to accuse two members out of 1200, we have to name names. Who exactly needs to apologize to Bruce Day or Charlie Herzog?
|
I would think that would be obvious. I don't want to call anyone out but the tone of Mr. Hoffard's reply was offensive. I don't know if he meant it to be taken that way but using the word "sycophants" is usually not complimentary.
|
Bill, since you've asked . . . Have you ever used the derogatory terminology "Checkbook Bruce", when referring to Bruce?
|
That I admit. However, I don't think that mine is the apology he is looking for. I have a feeling that Bruce has taken the "Checkbook Bruce" jab with good humor. It was meant that way. He knows that my approach to collecting is more down and dirty, which is different from the approach some others use.
