Remington Date Codes on Damascus Parkers
 

How common is it to find Parker damascus guns with Remington Date codes on them ??? Someone told me that it did not happen... Others say that they have seen several. What say you????

I have a 20 gauge damascus ejector barrel with Remington codes for 1936 and 1937. I showed a picture of the codes a short time ago on another thread. Cheers, Tom

This is the thread Tom Carter was referring to. I can only guess that since Tom's guns had 1936 and 1937 date codes on them and the work was performed while manufacturing was still in Meriden. The one letter in the link was dated 1948, well after Remington discontinued the Parker line. It could be that once Remington took over manufacturing they implemented the policy.

The date codes just mean that Remington did some sort of repair on the gun. Could be any type of service. There is no reason why Remington would not have done service on Damascus guns.

Perhaps this set of Bernard barrels with the Remington repair code of XG3 will support the fact that Remington would work on 'composite' barrelled Parkers.

Thank you Tom, Chuck and Brian, I was in North Idaho when your thread came up and I mised it. I found it a most interesting read today.

Gun Broker auction # 316792994 (damascus Gun) Was also repaired by Remington Parker. My question to this board is How often do you see a Damascus parker with Remington repair codes on the damascus barrel flats???

In the 1950s an east cost educated Lawyer name of Ben Davis lived in my town. He shot a damascus DH Parker, his favorite load was the 1 1/4 Oz load of winchestrer #4s. He shot the gun very well, and I just accepted the fact that Parker damascus guns were okay to shoot.

David, That is a very interesting gun on gunbroker. That is the type of project gun worthy of rescue. My only concern it that the set of damascus barrels are not original to the gun either, there is no question the serial numbers have been poorly doctored to match the rest of the gun.

I had a letter from Remington that related to my old BH (now sold) where the owner in the early 50's had tried to send it to Remington for ejector installation and they refused saying they didn't work on damascus guns. So there was apparently a line in the sand drawn at one time or another.

Remington probably used the "Damascus" excuse because they didn't want to do the ejector installation. Ejector installation would have been like rocket science to 1950s Remington employees except for DelGrego Sr.

Once they found out it had steel barrels they sent him down the line to Lefever. They put the ejectors on the gun but in reading the rest of the letters they apparently never worked right. When I got the gun they'd been disabled and I had them completely removed.
