November bird hunt

Some on the forum have met our four legged kids. Today they had a chance to get out and find some birds. A good time was had by all.

looks like a great day, I love to see working dogs of any breed
many people are surprised to know that poodles were ( and some are) hunting dogs. As I understand it, the fancy hair cut of the high fashion dogs started with a field cut meant to protect the joints in cold water. |
love those pictures...looks like some really good hunting the area reminds me of cavins place...those poodles are about the biggest ones ive seen..nice....do they train easily... nice guns too... charlie

That is awesome on so many levels!! Nice pooches!

Charlie, Standard poodles were originally German water retreivers, supposed to be number two in the dog world for smarts,Boarder Collie is number one.
Riley(the black dog)has a big brother that weighs 75lbs. Riley is so smart he's still teaching me how to hunt!:rotf:. Right after I gave him the dickens because I thought he was looking for field mice, he immediatly charges into a grass clump and kicks out a rooster, which I missed by a mile. He then stood there and glared at me with the "Stink Eye" look. Kept my mouth shut and trusted the dog the rest of the day!! 16ga pumps and Parkers were guns of the day. 10 birds located and 8 in the bag, great way to spend a day with my oldest son, the pups and sons friend. |
Bob, I'd love to go with you on a hunt with you if you have the time. You could teach a newbie what to do!
|
The dogs are the best part of any bird hunt. Looks like a great time was had by all...except maybe the birds.
|
Chuck, We should plan to do that, you'd enjoy it.

Pups were at it again yesterday. Hunters didn't start out so good, shooting over/unders missed the first four birds put up.:banghead: Back at the truck for a water break and the 1887 Parker 10ga Hammer gun was uncased. Back into the field and feathered creatures began to fall from the sky every time the Parker spoke!:)

what a view.... charlie

Wow, I'll never look at poodles the same way. Thanks for the lesson. And the pictures!!
|
How about getting some of that spray-on hair coloring in blaze orange for Frenchie?
Love to see dogs having a chance to do what they were bred for. |
Bob;
Where were you hunting? Let's get Chuck B. and get together for a bird hunt. Poodles and Labs will rule the day. Parkers or SxS's only. |

John, my wife beat you to that one! Last year she put Remy in a poodle Halloween show and dyed her pink. It still hadn't faded when we took her hunting that year!
Daryl, The farm is about 45min. north of me in Robesonia. Mark Wolfskill runs it,You can see his farm and bird pens in the background. The boys want to go again after the Holidays in Feb. or March. We should do this, Chuck would have a great time, as we always do. |
Sounds like a plan. There are a couple of good preserves we could break Chuck in on. Only thing is NO release triggers Chuck.:rotf:
