Well, I thought the estimates were too good to be true & they were.

Best Regards, George

I guess there was no need for me to race down here to Detroit for that auction!

Bill Murphy 11-15-2009 03:37 PM

I guess the first two guns were the consecutively numbered pair, 12 and 20. We didn't find guns like that very often when we went through the order books. What a pair of guns. I guess when you have good guns to sell, it doesn't much matter what auction house handles the sale. However, I would be inclined to use one that doesn't charge an 18% buyers premium. Mr. Redding up there in PA made $1276.00 for selling the AHE .410. These guys in Detroit would have made about $5000.00 for selling the same gun. The seller would have lost every dollar of the difference.

Jaquas bought the 20 of the BH pair and got the case for the 2 guns. It is a shame they broke up the pair.

You guys are going to love this. I had my decimal points in the wrong position. The guys in Detroit would have made $49,880.00 (assuming a 25% commission rate) on the gun that Mr. Redding sold for a commission of $12760.00. Be sure you know what you're doing when you sell your guns. Many more people knew about the Redding auction for one fine Parker than knew about the best Parkers that have been sold in years in Detroit.

Bill,What am I not getting here? 25%commission on $12,760.00 is $3,190.00 Am I missing something?

Bill Murphy 11-15-2009 08:10 PM

I was using the AHE .410 sold at Reddings a few years ago as an illustration. Redding sold the AHE gun for 11%, no buyer's premium, total commission $12,760.00. At the Detroit auction, assuming a 25% commission and 18% buyer's premium, total commission $49,880.00. The difference in the two commissions would be $37,120.00 and Redding seemed to draw a pretty good crowd, at least enough to get $116,000.00 for the shotgun. I added a few words to my post to correct what I incorrectly stated. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Dave Suponski 11-15-2009 08:16 PM

Ok Bill. Now I get it! Thanks..

Bill Bolyard 11-15-2009 09:01 PM

18% Commision and 6% sales tax.

I did a phone bidding while I was in the North Michigan deer woods, there was one gun I really wanted, and a couple of others, but the prices went sky high very quickly. All I ended up with was a Trojan 16 ga:banghead:

Fred Preston 11-17-2009 05:57 PM

Eric, I have one of those and was using it today. The most comfortable gun I have for carrying (6.25#) and shooting grouse (with spreaders), fezzant and bunnies; even got a turkey with it last spring.

Bill Murphy 11-17-2009 07:26 PM

I believe that the 18% is the buyer's premium. Does anyone know what the seller's commission rate is at that gallery? I know it is always on a sliding scale, but someone may have an idea.
