PARKER STORY

Okay forgive my ignorance, I am only a year into the parker bug. I am so impressed with the knowledge some of the members have about this brand and this era of gun. What is the parker story and is it two volumes?

Paul Plager 09-30-2012 04:25 PM

Mat, the Parker Story is a 2 volume set of an amazing amount of Parker info.
It's the magic book of Parker.:)

Dean Romig 09-30-2012 04:30 PM

The Parker Story is the primary 'bible' to Parker collectors. It is comprised of two volumes and can still be purchased for $295 (blemished sets are $195) from Daniel Cote, editor and publisher of The Double Gun & Single Shot Journal. The leather bound, signed deluxe edition has long since sold out but the standard edition is what you will receive.

Call 231-536-7439 to order. Daniel or Johanna Cote will probably answer the phone. They are some of the most pleasant people to talk with.

Bill Murphy 09-30-2012 04:36 PM

Buy the blemished set. It is a scam directed toward people that Dan Cote likes, like us. He likes everyone who reads the Double Gun Journal and reads his ads. The blems are not usually blemished. How dare he sell $300 books for $195. I kind of like his version of retail. Some posters don't like the "scam" word, but it was all tongue in cheek. Sorry I misled them.

Well said, Dean:bowdown:

1,000 pages never read so easy!

How about "incentive" or "preferential treatment" or 'last ditch effort to liquidate a valuable set of books he might have hoped would have sold out by now'. I just don't believe Daniel is in the business of 'scamming' anyone.

Matt Michael 09-30-2012 05:03 PM

Thanks guys, sounds like i need a copy

Bruce Day 09-30-2012 05:25 PM

Thanks Dean. "Scam" is uncalled for.

Thanks Dean!

It was a tongue in cheek way to say that Daniel is giving a $100 discount on a product that is worth a bunch more than he is charging for it. I have recommended the "blemished" set to many who have inquired. Gosh, guys, you know me better than that.

Angel Cruz 09-30-2012 08:08 PM

Man, I'm all the way down here and I could tell you where kidding. You always recommend the "blemished set".

I apologize Bill - I should have just sent you a PM instead of calling you out like I did. I know you have promoted the blemished set both here and elsewhere.

I had expected to see you at the Vintagers - sorry you couldn't make it.

Gary Carmichael Sr 10-01-2012 06:35 AM

Every time I reach for one of the volumes, I can not help but silently thank the authors of these books. The time and dedication that went in to the research, All the guys in this group that helped with copies of records, my hat is off to you! Thank you, Gary

calvin humburg 10-01-2012 07:47 AM

Well I am going to be the dork and say I wish I would of bought the unblimished set.

Bruce Day 10-01-2012 07:54 AM

Calvin's TPS is missing pages. I heard of another set bought as blemished that was also missing pages. Maybe some are perfect, I don't know, but I do know that some are truly blemished.

Bill Murphy 10-01-2012 08:22 AM

I am glad that was clarified. Maybe the full price version is the best deal after all.

Bruce Day 10-01-2012 08:29 AM

Bill, I really don't know. I know of two that have missing pages, but then I hear nothing untoward about others, so I suppose a person takes his chances. And I don't know if they are sold on an "as is" basis.

calvin humburg 10-01-2012 06:11 PM

I hear of more people who don't find anything wrong with the ones they have.. Seems I'm blessed in usually getting the extreme on occasion.

August Luchow 10-01-2012 06:11 PM

The set that I wanted was the leather bound set. I finallly located one through this board. I was pleased and the lucky fellow that bought my trade set, at the UPer, for $75 was as happy as could be.

G'Suffa, Prosit,

Bill Murphy 10-02-2012 08:49 AM

August, what do you consider to be the market value of the leather bound edition? I have never seen one offered for sale.

August Luchow 10-02-2012 07:03 PM

Mr. Murphy,

I believe that I paid $400.00. I was pleased to acquire the set. I may have purchased it from one of the authors. Its signed by all of the authors. The set is really nice. I hope you have good luck, if you don't already own a set.

Prosit
