Sorry about the site outage...

Earlier today, a fast moving thunderstorm knocked out power to about 4000 businesses and residences in Portsmouth NH - along with my servers and circuits ;) I thought the battery back-ups could last a few hours, but, with 12 servers/circuits - they didn't make it

Power is back on - and thanks for your patience!!

HOWEVER - on the PLUS SIDE - it did allow me to do some really necessary cleaning of the systems and a few hardware upgrades!! :)

On a final note - I'm AMAZED AT HOW QUIET my office can be without all this stuff running!!!!

Best to all - and thanks again!

John D.

As soon as I realized the site was down I went on the interactive radar website and saw the band of severe weather that ran Southeasterly across the entire region. Funny thing though... the skies parted right over Andover and we only had a bit of a sprinkle interspersed with sunshine while other areas like Portsmouth and the town next door to me got absolutely pounded.

John, you should shut it all down every once in a while so you can get some rest

I would - but all the phone calls from the PGCA Members telling me the site was offline would keep me awake!!!

Well, as you can tell, I'm still working on this server... Some piece of hardware was zapped, and so I'm replacing more stuff, as it has a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) every once in a while.. I've finished replacing the obvious stuff (memory, power supplies, network cards, etc.) - so, I'm turning it on for a while to monitor it...

Best to you -and thanks for your patience and support!

It was down???? Must have been while I was at work:whistle:

John Dunkle 07-25-2012 06:39 PM

;) It was - and for the last 14 hours, I've been moving it to a new server (that's why the albums didn't work for a bit ;) but, no one noticed :D )....

Still getting all the code set for a bit...

Best to ya' Rich!

John, I don't have a clue whatever you said but thanks for all of the work you do to keep this site running so well. What did you say, memory, BSOD, cards??? What are all of those things. Never mind. Thanks again.

Pete Lester 07-27-2012 05:13 PM

John I think you have it backwards, there is no need to apologize for a 14 hour site outage. It is all of us who use it that owe a THANK YOU for keeping it running the other 8746 hours a year.

Bill Murphy 07-27-2012 05:27 PM

Yup, thanks John. We'll put up with a lot of bad because the good is so enjoyable.

Fred Preston 07-27-2012 06:22 PM

John, Direct TV never said they were sorry for a down time, just kept sending the monthly bill. Think you're spoiling us. Thanks for all you do for the site and PGCA members.

John Dunkle 07-28-2012 02:36 PM

For the first time on this website - you folks have left me speechless, except to say THANK YOU!

My best to all for a wonderful weekend...

John
