1912 DHE 16 gauge 1 frame, I was told it went to New York to have a beaver tail fore arm installed, probably explanes the hole in the rib just before the barrel lug, I don't know the chokes yet but in the process of ordering a letter,
do you think the barrels have been refinished or origional? if the photos are not detailed enough I will make another attempt. |

The hole in the under rib means the barrel has probably been refinished, but that takes nothing away from it. Great gun.
|
Beautiful gun.
|
Nice Parker Ken. You should be proud.
Best Regards, george |
Ed is right! That is a drain hole in the bottom rib from a reblue. A great looking gun--shoot it in good health.
|
By "to New York" I guess you mean Remington in Ilion. It certainly has the correct forend lug and forend iron so it looks exactly like factory work and when the forend lug was replaced the barrels were probably reblued at the same time. The blueing looks like a Remington sheen... ever so slightly coarser than original Parker Bros. sheen and Remington would have drilled the hole too.
You have a very nice DHE. |
jealous
I am jealous. She is sweet. Why on earth has the 16 gauge become an orphan? You can hardly get shells for them, relatively speaking.
Enjoy |
Congratulations on a great gun Ken!
|
nice!
|
Just interested, what is the weight of the gun--barrel length-- and chokes? It would also be interesting to see the letter once you get it. Are you going to hunt with it? Sweet looking gun.
|
A PGCA letter is a must for this gun. Wonderful condition, whether or not the barrels are refinished. Forend installation looks very factory with correct lug and factory looking checkering pattern. What are the Remington repair codes? Looks like there may be more than one.

To George:
When did 16 gauge shells become hard to get? The Cabela's at Dundee has all you'd want to buy any day of the week. Should I stock up? Destry |
Gorgeous! What a beauty. The front bead looks a bit larger than most originals but doesn't look as white as the replacements you see these days. Am I right on this?
|
until that Parker 12 just followed my home - 16 was just about all I shot. I've not run out yet.
i would summit that they were popular and are popular there was just a temporary lull in that popularity and then upland shooters came back to their senses. |

I said relatively speaking. This is what i was alluding to: I miss all the nice compression formed WW 16's that i used to get. I am just not happy with the hulls that are out there now. They are NEVER on sale and they are pricey. BUT- you should always stock up. You can never have enough ammo. Besides-There is an election in November. |
Cabelas in wheeling ,Wv does not carry many 16 ga shells unless you want to shoot Fiochi Golden Pheasant loads . They sometimes have the Estate when they have a sale but even then rarely have more than a case or two. Dicks, will carry RGL's, but now dont want to sell them for the same price as the 12's and 20's, but I have been able to convince the manager to give them to me at the same price if I buy all they have--which is normally not more than a case or 2. Walmart doesn't seem to carry them either except for an occassional box of Rem Express at $15/ box. I have 9 cases laid away in the garage and was recently given a Mec 600,jr and am now enjoying those sweet 7/8 oz loads.
|
I have a stack of flats as tall as I am. I buy them at Dick's whenever they are on sale around five bucks. There may be no more, but I have a lifetime supply. Look for my obituary for a good buy.
|
Thats a very nice 16 and should make a fine bird gun.
The 16 is quickly becoming my favorite at both the SC course and the upland fields. A 7/8th oz load is hard to beat for both applications. I shoot only 2 1/2 inch low pressure loads and while I reload all mine RST is never out of 16's. |
Bill, that is exactly how I aquired many of the shells I have . A friend died and I was offered his shotgun shells at $40/ case including many cases of 16's, 28ga AA, and 410's. I bought over 20 cases. I hope John smiles everytime the clays break or feathers fly.

Nice 16. Have fun with it.

Thanks to all for your comments, Barrell length is 28 inches, weight is 6Lbs 10 oz,Fits me like a glove christened it at the skeet range with a box of gamebore black powder shells, then shot a couple of boxes of Federal at 5 stand, I dont know what the chokes are yet but devistating on targets. Can't wait to take it to ND this fall.
Now at $15,00 a box, next purchase is a reloader! More later |
Almost forgot... for Richard, the front bead is off white and looks old, I will try and get a detailed photo.
|
Fifteen dolars a box??? What are you buying at that price??
You can buy the best shotgun ammo available for $10 - $11 a box from RST. I don't reload and that's where I but most of my ammo. |
Remmington Express is $15 a box in maryland as well.
|
RST will ship a flat to your door for about $10 in S&H. Go to their website for available loads and prices. You can spend $15 per box with RST but they have ammo a lot less expensive too.

I would not shoot Remington Express ammo out of any Parker or other SXS for that matter. Even if your gun was built at the end of production under Remington it's at least 70+ years old probably older. The ammo won't damage the barrels or metal but it's the wood that takes the brunt of the recoil.
Dean is right in that if your not going to reload buy the RST ammo by case lots. Shipping is a minor added expense and if you go to any of the SXS shoots such as the Southern, Vinatgers etc RST is there. I load for everything and for years have only shot the 2 1/2 inch shells and have never felt underpowered for clays or game. |
Truely a piece of art. Just beautiful
