Phesant report
Bruce is Biking across KS. They have had to endure some western KS wind. We will see if he sees many birds. I have seen 1, 1/2 grown phesant so far. But hey I am now raising Chukar's so hunting will be good around Laird KS.

I look forward to a full report...I talked to the motel owner in Hill City yesterday. He told me not to bother cumming for birds this year that its been so dry and burnt up.....He said...If you did not water it its dead! I know bird numbers were way down from the hail storms last nesting season, a second bad year in a row will really drop the numbers of birds to hunt. We will go to Kansas anyway as we have muzzle loader tags this year. I only joined into the deer hunt not to be a party pooper. Dang deer will not fit into my game bag! and you have to stop huntin to move the @%$@! thing and get it on ice. I hope the news improves out there, I want to use my pop gun on roosters and quail..... I would trade all the deer in ohio to have the wild roosters and quail back like when I was a kid!!! Thanks all...SXS ohio...(-:

Charlie dog's are good.
Kenny yes there are plenty of deer. Does not look good I have seen some hen's on the road but I haven't seem any chicks with them. Maybe it's early? |
Calvin...Is it realy dry out there? will you be in the north west end of the state, hill city? Please keep us posted on the bird numbers....Thanks Kenny SXS ohio

One? I saw two peacocks in my yard in L.A. jus saying...
|
Take a drive through Palos Verdes if you want peacocks... Who's idea was it to set peacocks loose in LA ???
Oh, I get it... they emigrated from Palos Verdes. |
OK let me make myself clear I SAW 1 YOUNG BIRD, 1 YOUNG BIRD. I see a few old birds but not like 2+ years ago.
Kenny it is very dry 2nd summer of it. I don't know the life span of Phesant's but were in trouble. |
We farm west of Hill City; dry is not the word for it. We made the national news the other day as the hotest place on the planet at that time: 116. Bird outlook is not looking good.
|
Calvin, I'm doing some work around north central Okla and seeing a good crop here, let's see if it holds up till the magic day.

Around Alva? I bet they will b alright, is it green down there.
|
i wish i could send you boys some rain and cooler weather...its still hot in mississippi but we did get a little rain last nite and a lot of heavy wind...im gonna talk to the big guy and tell him the phezants are in trouble and need some help.... charlie

Over on I-35, plus seeing some quail in area also, which is a plus.
|
I'm in Connecticut and we don't have wild pheasants. However, my gun club stocks them. Last year a freak October snowstorm collapsed 3 pens and freed 10000 pheasant.
|
Bet you guys hade some fun!!
|
:rotf: no they were all in the town, not the fields we're allowed to hunt
|
The word from Atwood KS is mixed...good hatch...smaller clutches, early mowing of fields did not help. He did say south of 70 was the worst drought areas. We need a break out there for the birds to do better!. CRP losses will be very hard on the wild birds also. I see most of the farm bill money goes for food stamps...80% check it out.....SXS ohio

I love to go to the places everyone avoids because of bad reports. A good dog and next to no competition equals birds in the bag. And if it really is a disaster, a cold beer after a long hike is always good. :)
