Steve Barnett and son August brought their southern good manners.

Hey Eric,
Count the photos again because I added a few! :) Mark |

I think there are close to 75 posted... I'm too tired to count!
Thank you for the pictures Mark!!
It finally dawned on me why I shot so poorly on Saturday after a pretty fair performance on Friday with my 28.
It had rained before we shot on Saturday and the floors of every shooting box were slippery as ice and it was difficult to stay on balance and shoot well too... yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. By the way, Thank you Mark, for showing us that picture of Bob's wonderful rendition of Rich's GSP "Gunner" !! That will be one Parker to see when it is done and will surely be Rich's all-time favorite "go to" gun. |
Mark, Thank You for being one of our "Official" camera men. Outstanding job sir....:)
As I posted in a previous thread, "This is my favorite SxS shoot!" I think these photos articulate why...
Was good to see the boys, I hadn't been to a double gun event in awhile. Don managed to move some guns, Kevin sold some cases, and I sold some of my various junk too. All in all a successful event for the three of us I think. Thanks to Mark for letting me room with him on Friday night and driving me around.
Destry |
Destry,
You are most welcome. Heck, listening to you spin those yarns was payment ten-fold! I am still smiling over the bar-b-que story. :) Mark |
Dean, Rich's new bird gun wouldn't be my old 20 gauge, would it?
out standing.... charlie
Yes Bill, I believe it is.
Bill, yes thats your old 20. The stock is done now I just have to wait for the rest of the engraveing to be completed then it's off to be case colored. I will be hunting with it this fall. It's my deepest wish that Gunner will be able to join me on a hunt with "his" gun but I just don't think it's in the cards for him unfortunately.
Rich, that is one fine portrait. Where did the color come from that is on the front of the receiver? Does that result from the annealing of the metal for engraving? I'm happy to have participated a bit in your project.
Bill I think the picture your referring to regarding the color is a different gun. I looked through the pics again and the only one of my gun is the floorplate with Gunner. My gun is far from done. The sides will feature two Grouse on one side and two Pheasants on the other with a Woodcock on the trigger guard.
OK, now I know which picture is my old 20. What a great portrait of Gunner. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Thank you for the pictures sir. Very well done.
Was COB shooting a lifter? How about a short report of the Parkers shot by our boys/girls at the event. |
It was good to see you again Destry. Don't wait so long between appearances at these events. Bill, we missed you and the lovely Linda. The food, libation and the company at the Tall Pines GC was hard to beat. Hope you're feeling better.
John yes I'm shooting a grade 1 16ga lifter. I dug her out of the safe for some fresh air. I also shot the Hollywood gun a GHE 16ga skeet and a DHE 30 inch vent rib 20, Chuck Bishop has been bitten by the small bore bug when I lent him a DHE 20 30 inch gun I recently adopted at the Southern:)
Very cool. does your lifter have the longer frame with a check hook?
To be honest John I don't recall if it has the check hook or not. I really don't shoot it much. It's in the 13K serial number range. I recently picked up an English 16ga hammer gun so I'll most likely get her out more often as it was fun shooting the old girl.
Well John this could take a while. I shot 5 rounds of clays and 1 round of 5 stand all with different guns. Everyone else kind of followed suit. Yes, Rich was shooting a 16ga. lifter, he also shot the Hollywood gun, a newly acquired 20ga. vent rib 30", my 32" double trap. My guns included a 32" DHE 20, the 32" 16 that I bought from you,a 26" VHE skeet 20, a 30" VHE 28, Dave S. shot his newly acquired 12, 26" skeet, Robin L. shot his lovely A grade 16, Mike Smith, a new member, shot a great 12 DHE, 28" 1 frame, Dean shot his 28 VHE and Larry F. was shooting his B if I'm not mistaken. Chuck B. shot his 12 GH dam 30", Deb F. shot her new CH 12 ( I think it was a CH), Craig L. from the Fox boys shot his newly acquired and smoking condition GH dam 30", Dave P. shot his underlifter 12 I think. Mike Smith came all the way from NC. You and Carl should really put this shoot on your schedule for next year. You would love the Bo Whoop and the clays course is great. I hope I did'nt leave anyone out but my brain is coming down off the high I achieved over the weekend and it is pretty tired. I'm sure others will chime in with their guns.
Sounds like you all had a great time. Carl and I talked about it a few years ago. We may have to revisit the idea for next year.
As Daryl said, I shot my 28 ga. VHE 00-Frame on the big bore course and shot fairly well with it. On Saturday I shot one of my 16 ga. T/A LAM-1 28" 0-Frames and couldn't seem to get it together so I shot the 28 ga. VHE again hoping to redeem myself but suffered the same maladys... decided to tear up my score cards and just have fun with good friends. Friendship and comraderie is what makes this event what it is. I think most of us can say it was just a great social event with a lot of shooting thrown in.
I shot a round with a DH 10 Gauge on a #2 frame weighing 8 lb 2 oz. It's a nice light 10. I shot the second round with an early Lefever EE. I also shot the small bore course with a small bore, an AH Fox HE Super Fox 32".
Mark, you did an admirable job with that big Fox on those smallbore targets. Some of them were in your face and crossing at 20yds. so when you connected there was just dust. Thanks for all the great photos. I could'nt agree more. This shoot is becoming the best venue for the guns, guys and shooting.
I shot the big bore course on Friday with a 30" Lam-1 top action hammer gun. All that know me, know I can't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside. So, like Dean said, ignore the score card and shoot for fun with good friends. Saturday I shot a non-Parker, a Cresent Firearms .410 hammer gun. It was a poor showing, but lots of fun. I actually started pretty good with the high flyers at station one. I heard Larry F. say lead them about eight feet. I did and broke three out of six with the .410.
Dave |
28 gauges on the big bore course and super foxes on the small bore course. I am confused.
My apologies to Kathy and Debbie for not thanking them for the wonderful tailgate lunches. They really hit the spot. Dean and Larry are lucky guys.
Great to hear from you Mr. Purnell.
Hope all is well your way. |
John,
First, you should have been there! Second, Big Friend Ten is my high condition 32" 10 pound 10 gauge DH that tears up those in your face targets. My 8 lb 3 oz "light" (I also own a 9 lb 12 oz HE) Super Fox 12 gauge is a small bore compared to my Big Friend Ten. Maybe next year I'll try the small bore course with a 34" 12 gauge or a 36" 10 gauge! Mark |
The point is John is that we shoot to have fun. Hell we don't even keep score most of the time. Actually, the smallbore course was the better of the two courses. You must join us next year.

Don't be confused Dr. John, it's all for fun and fellowship. I pay my money and just shoot at clays as so many others do. If I was shooting for score and seriously wanted to compete I would shoot the appropriate gauge on the appropriate field. |

Here is it Gunny! A restored Super Fox HE known to kill far away waterfowl and make small orange targets instantly transform into orange dust! I shot her on small bore course just to show my Parker Brothers the spirit she has in her… http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...kwSuperFox.jpg Photo by Frank Silvers |
