Beavertail Trojan

Well, one picture worth a thousand words. Gun was made 1918. Serial number book listed as 28" 12 gauge standard.

PS. Thoughts on being original (can't imagine it is).

Pretty unlikely Tom. Checkering pattern is backwards to that which we are accustomed to seeing on the lowest grades of Parkers. There were an extremely small number of Trojan skeet guns made (maybe three?) and I doubt this is one of those.

Called the seller and had him remove the forearm. Said the inletted wasn't precise. That seals the deal (or lack thereof). Serial Numbers do match and its full/mod with the dime test. Gun was redone at some point and no doubt the forearm modified then.

If the price is right it would be a good shooter.

And also, not like putting a splinter forend on it is all that much of a feat. The only thing to watch for is wear to the barrel bluing from that BTFE if it has been on there a while. Personally, the forend does not look bad. But the checkeing pattern wrecks it for me. If it were a more attractive pattern, it would be great.

Were there ever any Trojan Skeet guns actually made? I know there is some Remington Promo material that shows them, but TPS says that there is no exidence of them being produced. These ones had straight grips also.

Here is my trojan with a beavertail forend. Someone spent a lot of money on it, including a miller trigger.

What a great gun Jeff, Congrats!

Dean Romig 05-15-2012 02:30 PM

Yes Jeff, a great gun! Please tell us what you know about your Trojan. I see it also has a raised comb and some unusual kind of forend attachment... ?

Looks like quite the trap gun!

There is a Remington/Parker Trojan Skeet gun on display in the Remington Arms museum in Ilion NY (at least there was 5 years ago).

Thanks Pete! Do you know what the next Trojan pictured below the Trojan Skeet is?

Wasn't the Trojan discontinued early in Remington's tenure

Sorry Dean I don't recall nor did I take a picture of the Trojan below. It was the Trojan Skeet gun that caught my attention and as you can see it is very hard to take pictures with the guns in glass cases.

The Trojan was available in the 1937 catalog. It says it is only available as a PG stock, rubber pad optional, SST available, no ejectors and no BTFE supplied. What does the TPS say about the end of it's production?

The Skeet gun was also featured in the 1937 catalog but it states in VHE and up for grades. No mention of a Trojan Skeet gun anywhere I can see.

Dean Romig 05-15-2012 03:48 PM

The Trojan was discontinued in 1939 so I guess "early in Remington's tenure." is off by several years.

Pete Lester 05-15-2012 04:01 PM

Does anyone know if the Trojan Skeet gun in the Remington museum has ejectors?

When the PGCA copied the Parker Brothers records at Remington Mark and a few others got to handle the Trojan skeet gun. Here is a very young Mark Conrad with it.Bill Murphy allowed me to photograph his album for posterity at this years Southern. Thank you Bill.

Pete Lester 05-15-2012 04:30 PM

There are some very nice and rare guns in the Remington Museum, how about a fluid steel straight grip G grade 8 gauge!

I have heard or read that Remington borrowed some things for the Trojan from the Model 32 but where the 32 was a superposed design I don't think ejectors is one of the things that could be easily adapted to the Trojan.

I found an older post where Murphy says it has ejectors.

Dean,
I bought the gun on gunbroker in 2007. I don't have any more info other than it came from Ohio. I found another barrel in 28" and had Lou fit it when he was around on the website. It is set up for sporting clays and skeet.

Nice! Thanks Jeff.

I really need to get to the Remington Museum in Illion. I live only a few hours away from it. Just keep forgetting to when I am passing through that way.

I think I remember TPS stating that Remington had one in the Museum, but there is little evidence that many were made in regular production or ordered.

In regards to Jeff's Custom Trojan, that piece of hardware on the evterior of the forend is most likely just a imbedded fitting for the front screw to thread into. Much like alot of belgian guns have. This would add additional safety from the front screw pulling out of the wood when putting the forend on and off.
