PARKER CASE COLOR QUIZ

3 Attachment(s)
in the spirit of continuing our gentlemenly discussion of the sometimes controversial subject of receiver case coloring, and to have a little fun as well, following are pictures of three different parker guns.

one has original factory case colors. two do not. of the two that do not, one was recolored via the high heat bone charcoal method and the other was recolored via a low heat, chemical process.

care to venture a guess as to which is which?

Chris Travinski 03-11-2012 11:07 AM

high, original, low

Bill Bates 03-11-2012 11:13 AM

Photo quality make it kind of tough to tell. They are over exposed and the color balance is off. The flash blown out areas don't help. Is it possible to take some side shots using soft diffused natural light, taken against a neutral gray background so we can see the true colors.

ed good 03-11-2012 02:38 PM

bill: sorry, i cant take any more pictures. all three of these guns are no longer in my care. they have been placed with new owners...

John Dallas 03-11-2012 03:14 PM

My heart bleeds foir the electrons and pixels which gave their lives for this useless (IMHO) thread.

ed good 03-11-2012 03:16 PM

come now d...its just for fun...dont you like to have fun?

Bill Zachow 03-11-2012 03:28 PM

High, low, and finally--original

ed good 03-11-2012 03:44 PM

High heat, low heat and original flavor as you described in your "quiz"

ed good 03-11-2012 08:03 PM

Ray Pond 03-11-2012 08:59 PM

high,low,original

Dean Romig 03-11-2012 09:11 PM

What's the prize?

:coffee:

Chuck Heald 03-11-2012 11:21 PM

The prize is: you get to listen to Ed tell us we can't tell squat and therefore all the prior criticism of his torched guns is BS.:knowbetter:

calvin humburg 03-12-2012 06:17 AM

Ditto what Chris said. I'll play but maybe the middle one is a......... as well??? Like you said better pictures would help.

Brian Dudley 03-12-2012 07:07 AM

The top is a torch job.

ed good 03-12-2012 07:25 AM

hate to disappoint you guys, the low heat chemical job was accomplished without the use of a "torch"...it is my understanding that the heat was applied and controlled in an oven of sorts. however, i am not sure of that.

having fun here is certainly voluntary. if you want to be negative, then please do take your misery elsewhere and do not spoil it for the rest of us.

as for a prize. how about free shipping on your next purchase of an item i have for sale?

Exactly. And when it comes to heat treating/case hardening ed has more positions than the Kama Sutra.

Bruce Day 03-12-2012 09:03 AM

and none near as interesting

ed good 03-12-2012 09:06 AM

bruce: we can certainly agree on that.

ed good 03-12-2012 09:06 AM

Bill Murphy 03-12-2012 10:27 AM

He's probably a nice guy in the field, but who would take a chance?

ed good 03-12-2012 10:57 AM

no prize for those who do not participate. and definitely no prize for those who are not nice.

I'll bite just cause maybe we can end this thread, the top is a torch job, you want to call it low heat be my guest, but that is what it is. And as George said please take your misery elsewhere and do not spoil it for the rest of us.

I guess I don't get a prize since I am not nice......:shock::rotf::rotf:

Eric

only complete answers will be considered. you gotta define all three not just one.

and just a reminder to you guys who seem to delight in visceral personal attacks: the opening statement of this thread is repeated here:

"in the spirit of continuing our gentlemenly discussion of the sometimes controversial subject of receiver case coloring, and to have a little fun as well, following are pictures of three different parker guns."

Destry L. Hoffard 03-12-2012 03:16 PM

Ed,

Why would you open yourself up for this? You must really be a nut.

ed good 03-12-2012 03:20 PM

hunter: when i was a kid i got hooked on errol flynn movies...you know the ones with all the sword fights in the shadows...well this is kinda like that...you know, parry, thrust, counter parry, counter thrust, fancy foot work...bad guys always loose in the end...i guess when all is said and done i find it fun and amusing.

one of my hobbies is studying human nature and how they react to certain situations...hopefully, it made me a better salesman, although i was never a great salesman.

great salesman are also crooks. i cannot be a crook. i tried it. it did not work for me. perhaps i am a bit nuts though, as you suggest.

thanks for your gentlemanly post.

Destry L. Hoffard 03-12-2012 04:14 PM

Unlike you, I never "claimed" to be one. A gentleman I mean.....

DLH

ed good 03-12-2012 04:54 PM

hunter: i dont know what to say.

Destry L. Hoffard 03-12-2012 05:27 PM

That would be a first, I'm writing this down on my calendar.

Ok my answer was not complete, but my answer was also correct.....:corn:I don't have to define all three, I just need to see which one your Master Gunsmith did..! Oh and there is no "fun" in this as to the number of guns that you (or your Master gunsmith) have destroyed. Eric

Both ways?

BTW, that sounds like a solicitation.

Daryl Corona 03-12-2012 06:22 PM
