Driven Bird Pair
Reading some of the archived information on this site I came across a Shooting Sportsman interview with Jack Skeuse, within which was mentioned the production of 'Driven Bird Pairs'.
Although I'm a relative newcomer to Parkers, I continually search for ANY information relating to Repros but have never heard of this variant. Can someone shine a little more light on this one ? |
I know of one set that was listed for sale on the net. It was a 12ga single trigger set in a correct repro double gun case. It was used....I did not keep any records about it. One does exist...thanks all SXS ohio.....(-:

Driven bird guns
Hi Guys I just asked Jack if we made a set of driven bird guns. His answer was that we might have put a set together, but it was 2 guns with matching dimensions put in a custom 2 gun case.
|
Richard, does that mean that the two were not consecutively numbered?
|
driven bird gun
More that likely not, but stranger things may have happened
|
Richard ,Please forgive my ignorance ,but would they have been identical guns in Choke ,Balance ,Dimensions etc. ,also would they have had any special engraving or markings ,showing them to be the " Driven Bird Pair " ? Thank you ; Russ

Well there you go.It does not have the Parker Reproduction case but a nice expensive pair at that.

Some of the rare Repros offered for sale by that dealer (an example is the two forend gun recently sold) are most likely from the collection of a person who had and maybe still has a close association with the Repro operation and one of its high volume dealers. He ordered many special order and custom guns which are apparently now coming on the market. Kevin M. and I displayed some of these outrageous guns in our "Parker .410" display at the Maryland Antique Arms Collectors Show at Baltimore several years ago. Some of you may remember that great display. If Mr. Skeuse does not know to whom I am referring, he may PM me and I will refresh his memory. I believe the pair advertised may be an original Driven Bird pair.

And SOLD ...within the blinking of an eye of being advertised.
( for the benefit of archivists, asking price for the pair - $14000. ) |
Mr. Skeuse, the dealer describes the case as a Brady. However, maybe he is mistaken. That case could easily be a special order Emebbi supplied by your company with the guns.

I wouldn't call them a driven bird matched pair. But the biggest mistake I've made in all of my gun dealings was when I bought my 16/20 combo repro.
The original owner had bought him and his son an identical set of 16/20 guns. Both had the same type, color and figure of wood. All barrels sets were choked the same "Q-1/Q-2 and they were consecutive serial numbered. At the time I could have bought both guns for $8000.00 and in my shortsighted stupidity only bought the one gun. At the time I couldn't imagine why I would want two guns identical to each other. This one has haunted me for a long time now to say the least!!! Oh did I mention that these are double trigger guns to boot!! :banghead: |
I bet his son in one happy camper. "Dad, where is the Repro you bought me? I want to go to the skeet range this afternoon."

The Parker Reproduction Driven Bird Pair that was discussed in this thread nearly a decade ago has surfaced again. This time in a GI listing by Mike Bishop LLC with an ask of $14,500.00 The listing includes a letter from Jack Skeuse confirming its authenticity.
There was a thread about another possible 2nd Driven Bird Pair. I find this 2nd pair a little suspect. http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7573 There may also be a couple of other pairs of Driven Bird guns out there somewhere. Here are several pics of the Real McCoy showing the special features that were incorporated into the pair when purchased new: |
That is one sweet pair of guns. Another PGCA member and I share what I consider a very unusual and rare three gun "driven bird trio" of Reproductions, identical to the last feature and consecutive serial numbers in the high 1700 range. They are 28 gauge, double trigger, straight grip, 28" modified and full, cased separately (thanks for that). I have never seen an identical, consecutive serial numbered, three gun set, certainly not with those desirable features. If I were to be the owner of all three guns, I would be tempted to modify them with engraving like the Mike Bishop pair.
