5 Attachment(s)
Would like to find out the grade of this L.C.Smith 12 ga. ser. 93913. The barrels have been cut off but retains nice wood and nice engraving. I love the dog on the forend wood.It has no safety and the stock doesn't look to be cut. Thanks Thomas

looks like a no2 grade to me...no higher than a no3...but i believe a no 2... its a fulton made gun i reall like this grade of gun...ps not a quality grade 2 just a no 2 grade....its confusing....nice gun...... charlie

Charlie: It has a 2 stamped on the barrel in front of lugs so that would explain that. Thanks Thomas

What is that gorgeous bauble holding the gun in the raised position? Is that an old cane or walking stick top?
|
Dean: Yes it is a old walking stick that needs new wood and i need to get that done soon. Thanks Thomas

Very Nice!
Yes, new wood... Hmmm... hickory or ebony or maybe strips of both done like a cane fly rod. |

Looks like an earlier Syracuse gun to me. I was thinking grade 2 as well.

Thomas,
That is a grade 2 from about 1899-1900 I think. Are the barrels fluid steel or damascus? I used to have a good set of damascus barrels for that receiver. I will look if they are still here. Patrick |
Patrick: The barrels are fluid steel and now it is a cowboy action gun with 19 1/2 inch barrels. That really sucks but it is what it is. Thomas

It is a Grade 2 but made in Fulton, it is still a pre-13 Smith. There are a number of features that are the indicators. The rounded front of the forend lug, the dog escutchion in the forend, the shape of the forend tip inlay, the engraving pattern on the locks and the lack of wings filed under the action. It is a shame about the barrels but still a very pretty gun.

Jent: there appears to be a crack in the lump
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../401028987.jpg I just picked up these barrels on the LCSCA site http://members.boardhost.com/lcsmith...326469280.html They are Armor steel, marked '2', and were likely (much later) factory skeet barrels made for a 1901 unknown grade gun. The muzzle of the left barrel might be slightly out of round and it looks like they were dropped with a cosmetic ding on the chamber end of the right barrel. Rib is intact and they ring like a bell and the pin & disc barrel check and extractor are there. I'd like to help get Thomas' neat gun back in service. Unfortunately that serial number is part of the 'lost' series, so no Research letter would be available, but it likely started as a Live Bird/Trap gun. If no one else buys the gun, I probably will, but am concerned about the extent of the needed wood repair. If someone buys the gun and wants the barrels contact me at revdoc2@cox.net |
Jent: It is for sale on the for sale forum at this time. Great looking gun they did a great job.Do you have before pictures or did I miss those in another post. Thanks Thomas
