Do you guys think this is acually authentic Parker? Apart form the Hang tag, I do not see anything that screams Parker, but I am not too up to snuff on accessories and such.

Jeff Kuss 12-12-2011 08:33 PM

I agree with you Brian. The hang tag is for a ten gauge gun, but I find it interesting that the tag is not filled out with the price and gauge. I haven't checked the reloading section of the Parker story yet.

The long funnel is marked 'B.G.I. 1149' for '10' gauge. I don't know about the short funnel. There is also a shell extractor that could be B.G.I. The wooden tools all appear homemade. The Tomlinson Cleaner box is from Union Hardware in Torrington, but the tool is missing. All I see is one of the extra brass screen replacements and a nasty bore brush. The primer tin is probably an early Winchester product. The top label is missing. The No. 2 was correct for early shotshells. The rusty thing on the end of the wooden handle is probably a priming tool.

I collect old watchmaking tools, and the box looks suspiciously like a "re-purposed" box for staking tools or some other set for jeweling, etc.. The internals on these boxes are typically removable.

I'm not bidding, but the Tatham shot bags are worth more than the present bid. The tag is just an extra bonus. The #1149 wad guide was available with Parker markings at one time. Go for it.

One of the items in this sale is a "Parker patent combination shell extractor and capper". I have never seen one and don't know exactly how they work, but that is one in the picture. It is shown in The Parker Story, and it is not, or doesn't appear to be, a BGI product.

$96.84 plus shipping. Congratulations to someone. Does anyone know anything about the Parker patent capper and shell extractor combo? Maybe someone would link us to the patent. I've not seen one that I recall in fifty years of collecting. If I have, I probably thought it was British.

Bill,
I believe that Ron Kirby had an article about the capper in the old Parker Pages. I will have to look to find it.

Bill Murphy 12-19-2011 02:44 PM

Now I see how the capper mechanism works. It was not evident in the Parker catalog offering. Is that your item, Jeff?
