I recently purchased two books on parker bros. s-s shotguns, They were by Ed Muderlak (Parker Guns "Old Reliable") and Peter H. Johnson Parker America's Finest Shotgun,Most of the information was on hammerless shot guns, Is there not much information on hammer guns on record,Myis a1887 12guafe double barrel with hammers. In buying books and going to different web sights I still have not been able to determined the grade , Here is what I know, On water table there ia a T with half cresent above and below, It has a small c at bottom of left lug going left to right and beloe about half way off to left side oc about halfway down is a 4. I need help Richard Tucker

Give us the serial number and if there are records on it we will tell you exactly how it left the factory including the grade.

There is a lot of information on hammer guns. The Parker Story and The Parker Identification and Serialization Book, see home page for links to order, contain extensive information.

If you post photos here, members will also tell you what it is.

Richard,

Go back to the PGCA home page at www.parkerguns.org and on the left side of the page is a list which is made up of web page links. Click on some of those and you will find information on how to ID your gun.

In particular, click on "Parker Identification", I think it will help. The other links are interesting too. The FAQ has a list of Parker books, "Grades" has pictures and be aware that they are small thumb pictures but if you click on the thumb picture it will expand into a full picture with good detail

Next best way to identify your gun is to post detailed pictures of the gun.

Richard Tucker 09-14-2011 06:52 PM

Is there a reason that serial number not posted. Richard Tucker

Bruce Day 09-15-2011 09:10 AM

Richard,

Are you sure you have a Parker Bros. shotgun? Go to the home page and then to the FAQ link and see the first FAQ.

Ihave these sights before and did not get much.I feel that the gun is aparker, It has at least six pateint dates on, serial number in four places all matching,Butt plate has parker brothers onit with dog head without dove, There is a small silver shield at bacccck of break over lever. On rib of barrel is engraved parkers brso, maker Merdien Conn, also has twist stamped on it,At start and finish of engraved wording are two are two arrows one at each end, Richard Tucker

Thank you, that is what I needed to know,Richard Tucker

Richard, Are the barrels stamped Twist, PLain Twist, StubTwist and what number is stamped on the barrel lug?

Richard Tucker 09-24-2011 11:41 AM

The barrel has twist on it.The lug has a #1 stamped on it. It also has on the barrel water table a#4 a T with half cresent top and bottom. A small c is also inthis location. I have read on PGCA that there was a little over 5000 guns produced out of twist steel. I also read on another that a 12guage shotgun on a #1 frame with twis steel is kinda of rare. I want to thank you for your help. Richard Tucker
