New GH Need Advice

I just picked up this Parker GH two barrel set on a number 2 frame. The gun has a 30" set of barrels with .738 bores and .040 of choke in both barrels. The other set is 27" (obviously cut but well done), again with .738 bores and cylinder in the right and .003 in the left barrel. Both barrels are numbered to the gun in exactly the same way and one barrel is marked 2 on the forend lug as is the forend for that set of barrels. There are two splinter forends for the gun. I've included some pictures of the gun. The advice I need is looking at the pictures would you recommend a restoration of the gun, maybe just a stock refinish. Gun appears to be all original. Barrels very tight on face and barrels have nice bores. In the serialization book as a 1907 gun serial number 145341. Has good shooting dimensions as well. Screws are not perfect but not bad at all. Has nice figure for a G grade gun. What do you guys think?

Gerry, If it were mine I would leave it alone.

Bill Murphy 09-02-2011 06:35 PM

Gerry, you of all people know that you don't restore such guns. Let us know when you get your PGCA letter or decide to sell the gun.

Gerry Addison 09-04-2011 04:45 PM

Thanks for the comments on the gun. I have to get some low pressure shells now to shoot in it.

Brian Dudley 09-04-2011 05:44 PM

You guys think that stock is original? Seems to have an awfull lot of curl for a GH.

Dave Suponski 09-04-2011 07:31 PM

Yes I do. I have seen some G's with just great wood.

David Long 09-04-2011 08:48 PM

Chuck Bishop 09-04-2011 08:50 PM

I'd align the solitary floor plate screw and that's it.

I would send to Delgrego to check over & advise. I have for 50 years every Parker[25-30]Jim

Gerry Addison 09-04-2011 10:08 PM

That is probably good advice and if I decide to keep it that is probably what I will do, either him or Bachelder in Michigan.

Loaded up some 7/8 oz shells with PB powder and shot the GH last night. Ran a 23 in skeet and a 20 on our 5 stand course using the 27 inch cyl and skeet barrels. Gun shot great and there is no recoil at all with this #2 frame gun and low pressure loads. I'm really impressed with this little gun. I'm going to send it out and have the screw head fixed and the gun gone over and cleaned inside. What a great find this little gun is.

I would send to Delgrego to strip & clan. The screw head he may be able to shave head for slot to line up. After 70years we all need a good fall cleaning. Do not buy winchester promo loads use other brands; the firing pins on doubles of vintage stick on soft winchester primers told to me by Ken Eversull[best english gunsmith&Fabbri]. I own 20 various sxs & they all stick on WIN, Purdey to LC hang on Winchester.Jim Mayer

PS wiping gun with clenzoil is great including wood; i use their hinge pin grease; it really enhances wood. My DT10 is 2 grades higher in luster; i have no intrest in clenzoil financially 60 years experience no more 3in1oil.jim mayer& my others

Shot this gun last week and it shot wonderful. Had a ball with 7/8 oz low pressure loads. Broke a 23 first round of skeet and 20 first round of 5 stand using the 27" barrels. What a great gun.

Send to Briley one set of Barrels & get 20 ga. non special. fitted tubes. jim mayer been there do that many times. Shoot a 1886 H&H Regulatrly done that way.Do not rIsk daMASCUS BARRELS. please
