Ringing sound Firing 12 ga. vh (1928)

Fired some skeet rounds today. Estate 2 3/4 1 oz 9 shot 2 3/4 dram 1180 fps. Gun is 2 5/8 " chamber. Per prior posts 2 3/4 should be ok. On discharge there is a distinct high tone ringing sound as though a high pitched bell had been tapped lightly with a small hammer ( audible through my ear plugs). Gun is in apparent vg cond.......on face etc.....What say ye....? All other operations are normal extractors work fine..shells don't stick and empties appear normal. I was contemplating taking this gun ( grandfathers) pheasant hunting in S. Dakota ( with appropriate light loads)..now not so sure.... Thanks........................Pat Buford

I've heard that ringing, too; it was the toplever.

Jeez, and all this time I thought that ringing was due to the vacuous void between my ears!

Some with the new top lever spring version (internal mechanism) not the V (leaf) spring will do that.
I have two that will do this.
If we are taling about the same type of ringing.

When I started buying and shooting Parkers several years ago, the old timers I was shooting with called it the "Parker Ping". It was a generally accepted fact that a lot of Parkers will ping or ring or however you want to describe it.

I have a VH transition gun that does that whether fired with ammo or dry fired, BUT, only with the rear trigger/left barrel???? Is this the same thing??? Gun still has the radial file marks on the breech end of barrels so shouldn't be excessive wear.

Some do it and some don't, I've never heard of it being a problem. It's just one of the mysterious charms of the guns.

Relatively common.

Pat, if you are relatively new to Parkers, you will not have encountered this ringing phenomenon before. Most of us have, and recognize it as attempts at communication. If you will wear this official PGCA hat, this should block out the electromagnetic waves.

Parker always tried to offer a bit more for your money. In this case they were a full century ahead of their time--a built in ring tone! I've often wanted to have my cell phone duplicate this unique feature of my VH.

Have fun with your Parker and learn to love that special feature--it didn't even cost extra!

I only have one Parker that "chimes", a 16 VH, and I love the sound!!!!

Shoot that gun enough and the ringing sound will go away, along with the sound on the television, the phone and peoples voices. :)

Its already gone. Wear electronic protectors now.
