It's been an honor but it's time for change

I’m sorry to Announce that due to Parkinson’s Disease I am stepping down as the PGCA’s Research Chairman starting today. It’s getting too difficult to make my fingers and hands work on the keyboard. Al Houde will be taking over for me and I’m sure he’s going to do a great job. All I ask is that you give him a little time to get up to speed. Try and hold off sending multiple requests for letters for the time being. One at a time would be appreciated. When I close my PGCA P.O. Box, the post office will forward the mail to Al for 1 year so there will be an additional delay in getting your letter back. He will have Mike Koneski as his backup and I’ll always be available to help too. John Dunkle will be revising the online Research Letter form to give the new mailing address and e-mail address on the form. Mary Bowes will automatically send the online Research Letter form to Al. Mike Koneski will be putting a brief good bye from me and a biography for Al in the next Parker Pages.

It’s been a real honor to be your Research Chairman for the past 15 years. I’ve met, corresponded with, and made so many friends thru writing letters. It’s been fun. I look forward to seeing everyone at future shoots and get togethers as long as my health permits.
Best wishes,

Chuck

You will be missed.

Chuck, Thank you for the great job you did.

edgarspencer 09-28-2026 09:46 AM

I have enjoyed every conversation with you, Chuck. Sometimes, the letter was an afterthought, and you gave me a 'Chuckle' every time there was a typo (only a few of the many letters, but I made the most of it.
I'll always remember the trip down to shoot at your club, the whole bunch of us sleeping on the floor in your den. The broken shower valve was almost the high point of the weekend. Georgie has never been the same since.
How you managed to keep doing these letter will remain a mystery. You are appreciated!

Mills Morrison 09-28-2026 10:23 AM

I have already said it courtesy of Ma Bell but I will say it again. Thank you for your years of service Your Majesty!

Dean H Hanson 09-28-2026 02:24 PM

Mr. Bishop,

Thank you sir. A delight to work with, and you put up with my incomplete requests time and again. I am reminded of the personal time you spent with me on an interesting 11 gauge that turned into quite a letter. If I had to describe a Parker Family member to someone, obviously your name rises to the top. Beyond the amazing service, you are a great person. Be well and take care.

Craig Larter 09-28-2026 02:27 PM

Chuck: I can't thank you enough for your service to all the PGCA members. I personally kept you quite busy through the years LOL. Good luck managing your health issues and i hope to see you at Hausmann's in the Spring.

Thanks Jim but you've done much with your sharing and wisdom too. You may not remember but years ago you sent me the shoe and screw for my lifter which was missing those parts. You didn't want any money for those parts. I appreciated your help.

Craig, you and Brian Hornacek sent me so many letter requests that I still remember both of your addresses by memory except I can't remember the zip codes! You slipped in this morning before I made the announcement by the skin of your teeth with a request for 2 letters. Al actually did the letters, I just printed them out and mailed them to you. I hope to be at Hausmann's in June!

Your the best Chuck!! 14450! Thanks so much for helping me out when I needed a letter on a expedited basis because a gun was coming up for auction. Fun times.

Stan Hoover 09-28-2026 04:22 PM

Thanks Chuck,

I've always enjoyed your company when invited to Blue Ridge and think of you every time when sitting down in front of the Spolar.
Hoping you and Margaret have many good years ahead and look forward to seeing you!

Brian Dudley 09-28-2026 05:56 PM

Thank you for all your hard work. It is appreciated by everyone!

Dean Romig 09-28-2026 06:24 PM

Dear Chuck, I well remember when you took over from Mark and initially I had my doubts that anybody could match what he had been doing for a decade before you stepped up... but I will say your work and sincere dedication has eclipsed his.
You devoted a whole room and more of your and Margaret's home to keep the PGCA Research Department alive and quite well.
Remembering when Robin Lewis spent a week or more at your house while you digitized the Parker records - What a vast improvement and time-saving venture that turned out to be... Kudos to you both and certainly for Mr. Dunkle's contribution to that endeavor as well.
We all go back a looong way and without the dedication of folks like yourself, the BOD, our editors Mike and Sammy Koneski, MaryBowes, John Dunkle himself, and all the volunteers - I say VOLUNTEERS... we wouldn't have the admiration and envy of all other classic firearms collectors organizations around the globe that we have.
I know that from time to time I've been a PITA to you but you NEVER complained about the extras I asked for over the term of your tenure.

I admire your dedication and I will say your work is impressive my dear friend!

Please give Margaret my best and please thank her for loaning you to us these many years.

My Best to You,
Dean

Thank you for your wonderful service. Hope your health improves and you enjoy many more years. I just ordered my 5th letter last week, if it doesn't have your name on it, it will seem strange.

.

Dean you bring up old pleasant memories of you and Kathy, Larry and Deb and me and Margaret and throw in Dave Suponski too. We did have fun. I tried to get Robin involved with recreating the hyperlinks again with no luck.

Suponski was responsible fore getting the research position. Dave invited me to a gun show in Connecticut January of 2012. It was the first time I got to meet and talk to you and Larry. Dave asked me if I wanted to be more involved with the PGCA. I said if Mark C needed help doing the letters I would like to help and the rest is history.

Margaret and I wish you and Dorothy all the best and I hope to see you at Hausmann's next year

Dean Romig 09-28-2026 08:45 PM

Thank You so much for those memories Chuck!

If the creek don't rise and the good Lord's willing we'll see you at Ernie's in June my Friend!

I especially appreciate the additional notes and in site you provided in the letter for my AHE. Good luck in your future endeavors and looking forward to seeing you at Ernie's next year.

Mr. Chuck,

Best wishes on your health concerns.

I can only echo the sentiments that others have expressed. Your place in the history of Parker shotguns has been cemented. At some point in the future, someone will say; I have a Parker letter provided by Chuck Bishop! I will treasure the letters you have signed.

Thank you again.

Edgar, sorry I just can't get used to calling you Terry! I do remember you guys sleeping over at my house and Georgie breaking the shower knob. I'll never let him forget it:rotf: It was always fun talking to you and misspelling your letters. Even spell checker wouldn't help me! Your knowledge of Parker Bros. and other worldly things amaze me. I'll keep in touch.

Youre frend Chuck
