gun case information
I would like duplicate a PARKER gun case for my circa 1934 ,28 ga. VHE. Where might discover the proper style from this era?

There were a few possibilities and none were made by Parker Bros. but were supplied and listed in catalogues. A low grade gun such as a Trojan or VH, unless otherwise mentioned in a research letter - and such mention is scarce - would likely have been shipped in an inexpensive canvas and leather take-down case.

I have a 1930's Red Head brand-

My PGCA friend Angel Cruz often has LOM and other high quality cases for sale, you might consider sending him a PM and see what he has at present- a great guy to deal with indeed!!:bigbye: |
See Angel's current listing in our "For Sale" section

Roger, If your gun was purchased from a dealer such as Abercrombie & Fitch then it may have included a leather case for a 28 gauge. Here is an A&F case made specifically for a 28 gauge. These cases were scaled down for the the small bore guns and are not as common as the bigger cases. Pat |
Thanks PAT, YOUR INFORMATION IS VERY HELPFUL. NOW I CAN CONTACT A NEPHEW THAT WORKED FOr A&F AND PERHAPS HE MAY LEAD ME FARTHER.YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!! ROGER

Roger,
Although not in as good condition as Patricks example here is another A&F case for a 28 gage. |
Those are some wonderful shells, Larry. What shot size?
|
I don't recall Bill. I received 10 boxes with the gun but have given most of them away as I don't shoot that gage. I think I kept one box and will look around for it tonight.
|
One box rests proudly on my shelf of shell boxes, it's one of my favorites actually. Thank you again for passing it along to me.

Roger: Other appropriate period cases for your Parker might be marked VonLengerke & Detmold or VonLengerke & Antoine (both were later acquired by A&F). Iver Johnson also sold Parkers through their catalogue along with Fox, Smith, Ithaca & others. Their cases are also embossed with their name.
Best Regards, George |

Here is an example of the VL&A small bore case that George is referring to. It is not the LOM style like the A&F case. It will only accomdate 24" barrels and was made for either a short barrel small bore shotgun or perhaps a take down rifle. Pat |
If I had a 28 VHE I might have to have one of these made for it:

If I had a 1934 VHE 28, I would search for an Abercrombie and Fitch VC trunk case made in England. If you find one originally made for a smallbore, it will be the find of the century, but they were original Parker items for skeet guns and some few field guns.
