Upcoming Side by Side Sanford: Trade and Sales?
Just a question to the group here. I haven't been to a southern side by side (Sanford. NC 2026) so am curious as to if there is trading and sales of personal SxS guns happening as part of the weekend?
Thank you for any thoughts. |
You can find individuals with guns for sale. Just look for folks carrying a gun or gun case and ask if they are selling. There are people who go with that being their main reason for going. And some of the collector groups often have guns around for sale. Be proactive and talk to folks and you may uncover just what you are looking for.
|
And of course there will be something like 50 - 75 vendors in the tents with guns for sale.
. |
Typically if I have something I wish to sell I make it known a couple weeks before on here and if someone expresses an intrest I’ll take it along . But my reason for being there isn’t to make sales , so I don’t usually take stuff just to be taking it .

All good gents.. thanks for the notes. I guess I just need to head on up there and check it all out.

If anyone sees a long barreled midland hammer gun with 3" chambers serial number 111888 I am hunting it.

Kirby should be there as well as JP and Country Pursuits.

Are PGCA members permitted to display guns for sale in the PGCA booth?

Someone had a sign up behind their car I think telling of 3 or 4 items for sale and was asked to not do that , but it wasn’t in the tent .

The AH Fox Collectors can place members guns for sale in our booth because we pay the full rent for our booth space.
|
That explains it. PGCA gets a gratis booth, so the proprietors make the rules. Maybe PGCA should pay the freight so its members can make some trades and display their treasures. It's not too late to change the rules for this year.

Why incur a major expense so a few members can sell guns on the Association’s dime? We already share a huge tent with LCS. No reason to rent space and have to watch over a booth for 4 days.

Myself and the other person were given a lecture about how vendors spend money to rent out tables and we would be asked to leave if we were "buying/selling". I certainly wasn't intentionally trying to break any rules. If you know me you know that's just not my personality, I was bothered by the "talking to" I received as I honestly didn't know what I didn't know. So please take that under advisement. |
Jay, was the guy who talked down to you Bill Kempfler or the new guy?

IMO if a vendor at his booth doesn’t have what I want, at a price I think is a fair price, and be isn’t willing to dicker, I will look elsewhere… and if it happens to appear in a parking lot, or walking the shooting course, I will strike a deal wherever the opportunity presents itself. I will not obviously break any rules and will conduct a deal very discreetly… as I have done twice in the past. . |
That's reasonable Dean. Were someone to walk up to me in the parking area or at my hotel with a shootable dimensioned fine conditioned 20g Trojan and mistakenly tell me it was for sale....let me see...would I go look for one in a booth or buy it? We all know the answer.
|
You are a better man than I Jay. I would have told him to pound sand. I'm at the point in life where I don't take kindly to being scolded. At the very moment you were being dressed down I bet there were at least 100 or more private deals in the works. Does that person understand that if Parker were to pull out of that challenge thingy he would be singing a different tune? Just saying.
|
Bill, I don't remember who it was, and I don't think they remember me as I have had nothing but a great experience down there since.
I can see them wanting to protect the vendors and justify the table rental fees. I do think meeting up at the Southern to buy or sell from/to a friend is certainly reasonable. Quote:
Needless to say, I am a bit more discrete these days... |
I am a little surprised at this whole no no about selling guns at these shoots. Seems to me that a month before each one at least the Parker For Sale Section is awash in offers to sell guns and that they will only be available at whatever the upcoming shoot happens to be. Am I missing something?
