16 gauge load

Does anyone have a tested 16 Ga 2.5" low pressure load using powders available today? If so, could you please post it, thanks, Steve

There is one on the 16ga. and Green Dot thread. It uses Longshot powder.

Andrew Sacco 10-03-2025 09:24 AM

YES

2.5" Cheddite hull (I used fired RST hulls)
Cheddite 209 primer
18g LONGSHOT (readily available)
SG16 wad (Guilandi from Precision)
1 oz #8 shot
7270psi 1200fps

Tested by Precision and this is credited to Jeff Sweeter on this forum.

I'm telling you it makes dust out of clay targets and will kill what you need it to. I think Longshot is a bit loud but I have over 20lbs of it so it's what I use.

I never said I hit a LOT of them, but when I do they go POOF!!! And it's fun!!! : ) I'm very excited for Maine and these loads and my 16VHE on a 0 frame next week. The great thing about a little Parker like that is if there are only a few birds, carrying the gun is at least somewhat satisfying in its own right.

Mike Koneski 10-03-2025 04:38 PM

BWAHAHAHAHA! Well played Andy. The 16 is my favorite for upland birds larger than quail. I can say the only other double I carried in Maine was a factory 26” Lefever in 12g. The 16 just carries easy and hits them hard. Hope you have a good trip. I was asked to go October 8-12 but we have a huge event on October 9 and a benefit shoot on October 11 so I had to decline the invite.

Andrew I’m having a hard time reading your specific load. Could you please type it out, thanks, Steve

Ched hull 2 1/2
Ched 209 primer
18.5 gr win 572
Sg16 wad
7/8 oz #8 shot
6 point crimp finished with Gaep
1217fps
5793 psi

Nice and light, very comfortable to shot. I use this in my two Damascus 0 frame guns, a German hammer gun, and my Westley Richard’s boxlock.
