Second Oldest Parker Known?
 

I saw Parker # 1848 sell at auction today. The only listed serial number older in the I & S book is #1444. This 1848 is not in the book, and it was presented in a wooden case and is 14 gauge with several 14 gauge UMC shells also in the case, wooden cleaning rod, primers and over-shot wads for reloading. Quite a piece of Parker history and went for over $10k. Not too bad condition for a 147 year old beauty.

Jay Oliver has several with 2 digit Sns

We have seen many Parker Bros. Guns with serial numbers lower than the one you show and describe. No. 9 for instance and No. 66 are known and many more as well.
True they are not included in the factory records the PGCA has.

GI has #7 for sale. Musta been the original owner buying it back at that price. Sheesh!!!!

I do have a problem...I love back actions

My favorite one, is a non-factory cased higher grade back action lifter# 115, a 12ga with 30" laminated barrels. with every accoutrement you could imagine. I wrote about it in this summer's issue of Parker pages. I do shoot it a few times a year.

I have 019 and 029 cased together both are 12b guns. And a few other early first year of production guns below serial#100.

Thanks to all above. I had no idea (obviously) there were other, older, numbers out there since I only have the I&S book to go by. Always learning something on this site!

Was the price paid out of line for one with the cracked stock and two screws holding it together?

Is the case something Parker produced?

How rare is 14 gauge?

When/Where did the one you post sell? $10k seems a bit high, but then I might be behind the times.

I had a few chances to buy a Parker cased lifter in a factory wood case and I don't know why, but I didn't buy one. Of course now I wish I did. I might have to have one made.

I do have a a nice 14 gauge back action around 1000 serial #.

The subject gun sold yesterday at auction in Indiana.
Final bid was $9000 plus 15% buyer's premium. Assume sales tax would be charged (7-9%) and then shipping if one dared to do so!

I bid on it a while since there was little action ahead of the auction but it became way more expensive than I wanted to invest, especially since my knowledge about it was limited.

We would like to see the Indiana auction so we can see how it was represented. Thanks.

Bill, I copied the photos from the auction house. It was listed through Proxi-Bid so it should still be up on their 'past auctions' tab. Someone must have really wanted it. I wouldn't have gone that high but I get it, you just don't see that too often. I have complete box of those 14 gauge shells.

I recently sold S/N 63 to a fellow PGCA member.

The earliest S/N in our records is stock book #1 and it starts at S/N 1500 but the information on these real early guns in stock book # 1 are very faded out and mostly not readable other than the S/N.

Gary, I do still have #97 a wonderful example of a higher grade back action. I also have #46 a higher grade 10 gauge. I might list one or two of my early ones for sale here before too long as I working towards a funding a "new" Parker Purchase.

An early gun that was also your #029 I treasure and use once or twice a year. I love everything about it. I wish it could talk!
