Vintage Cup Cancelled

George Hopkins has cancelled the Vintage Cup shoot September 11 to 13. The NSCA shoot for September 14 is apparently to be held as scheduled. George had been awarded the Vintage Cup name, but maybe there isn't enough interest to keep the name alive. Too bad, we have enjoyed many years of Vintager events over the years. Maybe the Orvis event at Sandanona will fill the void.

Where did you get this info from Bill?

Ed Blake 08-25-2025 03:21 PM

I just got an email from Hopkins about this. Too bad

It was doomed after the debacle at Warrington.

I think 50 targets for $69 did little to help the cause .

When asked on Saturday about the Vintage Cup, they said, we have no sponsors and only 18 shooters registered to shoot,

So it was highly unlikely that it was going to happen.

I have heard of a Vintager shoot at Addieville on September 19.
More details as they become available.

I would most definitely attend that one!

I spoke with Melanie yesterday and she said it was definitely on.
And would be getting the email out shortly.
If you don’t have Ray and Melanie’s email I can get it to you.

Nothing against that place , but if I’m going to drive over six hours I’m headed to Hemingway . And I suspect being in VA the distance to Hemingway is most likely closer than Addieville . Just saying ! But for you guys on Long Island it’s a no brainer .

Wouldn't it be great if the Northetn at Rock Mountain could be moved to the cooler weather of September if the VGC is no more.

Ed Blake 08-26-2025 05:49 PM

I’d go back in September after doing the Northern SxS in July. No question about it.

So would I but I know what it takes to put on one of these shoots and Mike puts in more than is needed to make a shoot a success. Might be a bit much for him and Sam to do it two months in a row. Better idea is to make his July shoot known to former Vintage Cup shooters as the last big shoot of the season for SxS events.

And his trophy targets are atleast $10 per 50 less than anywhere else most of you go . Think Koneski was $55@50 this year and Hausemanns Deep River and the Vintage cup were all atleast $10 more I think the Fall Southern is also $65+ for 50 trophy targets .

With out a doubt, Mike's trophies are world class and his target prices are reasonable considering the cost of the trophies. If you can't have fun at Mike's shoot then you need to rethink your life.

Clark: Is this a one-day event? Curious, why on earth they'd select the weekend of the Game Fair at Sandanona, which correct me if I'm wrong, Robin Hollow attends?

Clark McCombe 08-28-2025 08:12 PM

The Vintage shoot is a one day event, Friday Sept 19. Last time it started around 10, shot 50 targets, took a break, some of us switched guns, 50 more targets, Then lunch around 2.
Only score keeping was to beat your personal best. Vintage attire encouraged.
The Orvis Game Fair is Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st.
I'm hoping to get to Addieville on Friday and possibly Orvis on Sunday.
I was wondering if there is a plan for a Parker tent or get together at Orvis?
