I am not sure on the 99, is a 22hp, lovely little rifle.

Gotta love those “varmint” calibers!

I read an article in Gun World Magazine about fifty years ago written by Elgin Gates about a trip in Africa . His guns were delayed so he had to borrow/rent . He got a 375 H&H , 404 Jeffery and a 505 Gibbs . I’ve owned a couple 375’s as well as a couple 416’s and did the load work for a friends 505 . But I’ve never had my hands on a 404 so obviously never loaded for or shot one . But after reading the previously mentioned article I’ve always wanted to !

Beautiful array of projects.

For a lot of my growing up years my father's step-up varmint rifle from his Model 54 .22 Hornet was a pretty little made in Ferlach, Austria, top-lever, break-action single shot in .22 Savage High-Power (aka 5.6 x 52R) with single set trigger in a rhino horn trigger guard, Greener side safety and a barrel that started octagon and tapered to round. He loaded it with 63-grain .227" diameter bullets from Sisk. By the time I was in college the little Austrian's accuracy was falling off and it got traded for a Sako Vixen heavy barrel .222 Remington Magnum. Another now obscure cartridge.
