Vent Rib Guns

I’ve seen Parker vent rib guns in 12-16 and 20 . And I think a 28 . Am I correct on the 28 and were there any vent rib 410’s ? While I’m at it anyone ever see a factory Parker vent rib 10 ?

CraigThompson 06-12-2025 03:09 PM

Well I looked in the fat cumbersome book of the two volume set at the table for vent rib guns and a saw a few 28’s several 410’s and TWO 10’s .

I have seen all three gauges in vent rib, but they are very scarce on the collector market.

General Billy Mitchell’s BHE 10ga is a special vent rib 10ga. It’s probably the finest steel barreled big bore Parker extant -

I’ll post photos of it later-

There are 6 410’s in the book I believe but I have seen 2 other late Remington guns that were certainly original not in the records…so 8 for sure.

I seem to remmember discussing a 410 vent with you last year now that you mention it !

Rich Anderson 06-16-2025 12:35 PM

I have seen and handled a 32 inch BHE vent rib 410. It's spectacular. I sold a VHE VR 20 skeet gun a couple of years ago and have VR guns in 16 & 20.

Bill Murphy 06-16-2025 01:19 PM

I have a G grade Damascus vent rib gun. The barrels do not have the flat extension rib so I assume they were installed after the production date of the gun. I am not sure the rib is Damascus, but it is marked Damascus Steel. Unusual gun for sure.

I “had” a VHE 12 32” vent rib Monte Carlo stock trap gun all lettered to the gun you’ve I’m sure seen me with it before , but the key word here is “had” . I also not to long ago was able to shoulder an A-1 Special 32” 12 vent rib , let’s just say if I owned that A-1 it WOULD go in the Colombaire ring !

If any one has the book American and British 410 Shotguns, on pages 62, 64 and 65 are nice pictures of a CHE 410 with vent rib. James

Does the one-of-one AHE .410 Skeet ghn have a vent rib?
I’ve handled it and have pics at home, but I’m not at home right now.

Brother Murphy will know.

Not willing to bet the farm on it Dean but I am pretty sure that is a solid rib gun. Single trigger, PG, and BTFE.

Bill Murphy 06-17-2025 05:01 PM

The AHE .410 Skeet has a solid rib. I guess the owner failed to check the "Vent Rib" space on the order sheet. He certainly checked everything else.

Is that the 410 that got the top award at the annual meeting in 2023 the same weekend as the Vintage Cup at Warrington ?

Did you have that gun displayed at Sanford before you sold it ?

Yes Sir it is one in the same. I do not recall the issue but there was a pic or 2 of it on the PP's article relating the Peoples Choice Award.

Mike Koneski 06-18-2025 08:22 AM

Randy, if the PCA was during one of the VGC tournaments at Ernie’s, the article would have been in a Winter issue as the Fall issue goes to press late July.

It was at a VGC but not Ernie's, in 2023 it was held at Warrington. I would suspect it was in the Fall Issue then as well...

I decided to take a peek rather than guess. It is actually in the Winter issue 2023 if anyone cares to see this little 410. Not much in the way of pics but ...

What do we know about H.H. Barnard? The person who ordered the AHE .410-bore gun through A & F.

Bill Murphy 06-18-2025 03:17 PM

As I recall, Dean has a file on this gun, at least he has pictures that I sent him a few years ago.

Bill, you sent pictures ? I am at a total loss for words :)

Bill Murphy 06-18-2025 05:30 PM

An AHE .410 is reason enough for me to "produce" pictures. I spent quite a bit of time with this little jewel but fell a bit short when the bidding started. As I recall, it was in excess of $110,000. I don't remember the exact amount, but it just didn't matter. Oh, and yes, I took pictures.

Dean Romig 06-19-2025 09:54 AM

Yes Bill, I have a small file with your pictures and others on this gun and a bit on H.H. Barnard somewhere on my laptop in the folder I have named as “Other Peoples’ Parkers”
But I won’t be home for several days.

Bill Murphy 06-20-2025 08:38 AM

$116,000 as I recall. Not a bad gun.
