I want to kill em...
1 Attachment(s)
What would possess my 9-year-old boy to decide to snack on my books. I can't freaking believe it. I had these books close to twenty years, all in very good condition and now they are trash. if it wasn't for the love, he be dead.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :eek::banghead::cuss::crying:
PETS AND CHILDREN ARE WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. |
It kills me every time I look at them.
|
I don’t blame you. Those are early classic upland books (at least as I can see the remaining spines). As a long time book collector, it hurts to see that. So sorry for you.
|
So I gotta ask; why? I could say all the silly stuff, like is there some sort of vitamin deficiency, but I won’t. Just asking again: why?
|
Ive seen this from friends before a few times. Never seems to be a good explanation.
Some people suggest that the dogs are attracted to the old glue. |
Steiner, the thought of the glue crossed my mind.
|
And mice and bugs and humidity… Seems se just can’t have nice things.
It would truly kill me. Many of my books have been inscribed to me and to lose those would be terrible. . |
That's why we don't store or display our favorite decoys on lower shelves.
|
Yeah, I messed up on that one Bill.
|
They can be rebound but it might get pricey if you want to get more than just plain bindings.

Angel,
My wife suggested you look up pica disorder and see if that is the issue. Good luck, Ken |
Don't feel bad Angel. I had a dog once who chewed through a silicone gun sock and gnawed the butt of a DHE. Had to have the pad replaced and the wood repaired. She never chewed anything after that or before. It has to be scent related.

Something about the smell of the old books got to him. He’ll think twice about going near my books again.

Ah Hell, just teach the little fella to read... anyway, 99% of the time, with regard to our dogs, their mistakes are a direct (and indirect) result of our own failure to prevent them from occurring... just saying..
|
I really should not comment on this as it is none of my business, but I find the statement about ones dog a bit uneasy. He/she is a dog with no ill intent in what he/she did. Books can be replaced but unfortunately ones dog cannot.
|
Oh, don’ worry Steve. My boy Willy means more to me than my own life.

Well if it makes you feel any better at all, a number of years back I parked to hunt pheasants and this pickup looked mighty odd to me. It was FILLED with foam and fabric right to the tops of the windows. Then I saw a pair of eyes looking out and what appeared to be a youngish retriever. Coming out of the field a guy wished me luck, and I asked how he did. He said, "No luck, but had to rest the young one and take the old boy out." I asked if that was his F150 and he replied yes. "Didn't know they used that type of foam in the seats anymore." He looked at me puzzled and I told him he might want to hurry back. That cab was just filled with shredded foam and fabric and I still laugh about it to this day. I heard a bunch of screaming but no gunshots, so I figured the dog survived the day.

:rotf::rotf: I bet you he wanted to kill em:rotf:

My high school friend and future B-I-L had a 67 Chevelle SS 396. We hunted deer with dogs in those days in the Savannah River swamp. He left two or three deer hounds closed up in his Chevelle for an hour or two. When he got back the seats, door panels and headliner were destroyed. I remember thinking "Serves you right, dummy".
Not the case with your books Angel. Sorry about them. You had no reason to expect that. |
