Had the oldest grandson out..

Today I had our oldest grandson (9 years old) out for skwrl. Finally had a day that wasn’t too cold and windy. He wasn’t using a Parker. He’s still a bit slight of build to use a double gun, so he shot the single shot Savage .410. Copper plated 13/16 oz of 7 1/2 shot. He scored on three skwrls.

It was a good day Tater!

Well played Papaw. Quite certain we'll be seeing that young fella on the Rock Mtn course before long.

How many of us cut our teeth skwrl hunting?? I certainly did.

Nice work Pop. It's still one of my favorite ways to spend time in the woods. Mmmmm.... buttermilk fried skwrl.

How's Grumpy?

Mike Koneski 02-14-2025 08:06 AM

Thanks Daryl. I haven’t seen Grumpy or Grizzly for a while. It’s been really cold for months so they are probably hanging in thermal cover. I haven’t seen Grumpy seen grouse tracks though.

Saw this the other day and thought of you and Grumpy.:)

I’d wager he’ll remember his squirrel hunts with you, Mike, forever. I still remember hunts with my Pop.

That is just great Mike, you're starting him out right!!

I guess other than nephews, grand children will be my next mentee's.

Now the waiting:)

Oh yes, to the spelling police, is mentee's correct:corn:

How about “mentorocity”?

BTW, mentee is the proper word.

Might need to change his name from “Rex the Turkey Slayer” to “Rex the tree rat killer”

Great pic, Mike. Reminds me of my first squirrel hunt with my Grandad and a JC Higgins .410 double. I'm sure it will be indelibly engraved in his memory, as is mine after some 65 years.

Well done!
