Major Waldrons NYD Shoot Canceled
 

I am very disappointed but the Weather Man is not cooperating. The forecast here for tomorrow is for a steady rain overnight to 10AM followed by showers. Not only is it unpleasant but with all the rain and the ground thawed the parking lot and fields will probably be a mucky mess.

I will check with the club officials about us getting together on MLK day on Monday January 20th if any of you have interest in getting together then.

When I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB we could get a great turnout in the dead of winter for skeet shoots. When it was really cold we shot three man squads and did fifty birds and then came in to warm up while another three man squad went out and shot on the field. In the summer when fish were in the rivers and berries needed picking it was harder to get a turn out.

Dave, our first or second New Year's Day Shoot was done in blizzard-like conditions.
We all turned out for it, Pete, Scotty, Bill, Bobby, Robin, John Dunkle, Dave & Danny Suponski, Austin and I'm sure a few others....
But we're older and wiser these days... well, older anyway... and more in tune with our creature comforts. But I'll tell you, in those blizzard-like conditions the targets were unbelievably challenging!!

Thirty years ago Bob Myers would have a registered skeet shoot in January at Fairfax R&G . It was always very cold but typically it was always full . I’m sure they still have them I’ve just not been in the NSSA stuff for a number of years .

As in real estate, it is location, location and location. The last registered skeet shoot I went to when I was stationed in San Diego, in December 1973, the weather was in the low forties and spitting a bit of rain and only myself and a retired Navy Chief showed up. We had a beer in the clubhouse, toasted the shoot and went home. By February 1974 I was shooting in near zero and standing on the station on the skeet field was like standing in a goose pit. Waist high snow with holes dug down to the concrete.
