NO .410 3" AMMO

It appears to me they have stopped making this stuff. Or if found need to get a loan at over $25/box. Looking for 6s in 3". I'll post a wanted to buy for hulls in that section.

What's up with this .410 ammo?

Bob Hayes 12-09-2024 06:38 AM

I've found it at Scheels,Ammo.com,Bass Pro and Walmart..Scheels was $19 per for #8's.
Walmart was the highest at $21 per for #7 1/2 all were 3" shells in various brands

Jeff Kuss 12-09-2024 07:48 AM

Cabela's has 3" #6 herders for $18 a box.

Daniel Carter 12-09-2024 08:14 AM

I have seen them at Bass Pro, Herters.

Bill, I have a box of about 400 I'll send you for the cost of shipping. Once fired, if you still want them.

Jerry Harlow 12-10-2024 11:21 PM

Thanks for the great advice on Ammo Seek. I found Challenger (made in Canada, eh) 3" 11/16 ounce 7.5 shot for $14.45 a box (x 10) including shipping. That is at least $5.50 a box cheaper than big box stores. I'm interested in how the empties will reload since I have no idea who makes the hulls if not made by them. But I can shoot like crazy now after doves in the late season without reloading bird shot.

Brian Hornacek 12-11-2024 08:36 AM

Wow that’s a wicked deal, that is a new post that was not there 3 weeks ago!

Bill Murphy 12-11-2024 11:32 AM

Stan, sent you a Private Message.

J.A.'s price is the lowest I've heard of - best buy at our local gun show(s) is c. $21 box of 25 for 2 1/2" shells # 8 or 9 shot.

Bill Murphy 12-12-2024 09:43 AM

Brian, I know what Stan uses them for, but what do you use them for? I once killed 13 straight pheasants with 3" #6 and 7 1/2 in an L C Smith bored modified and full. I also won an informal Chinese Trap event against 12 gauge shooters with my Browning Superposed .410 bored full and full, loaded with 3" 7 1/2. Our Chinese Trap events are shot from the 25 yard line. I don't imagine I am up to repeating those feats today.

Brian Hornacek 12-12-2024 11:21 PM

I use them in 8 shot for quail and sporting clays through my DHE and an LC Smith field. Next trip will be for Bob’s in South Tx. Some times in a Winchester 42 or superposed.

Received a case of .410 Challenger shells today. I read they were made in Canada but these are made in France. Nice box but a hunter is getting ready to shoot a French rabbit in front of his bird dog. Thought that was sort of funny.

I loaded a few yesterday, but it was too cold in the garage to load a bunch. The hulls were 3" Remington. The primer seater sticks in the shell, so I will have to modify it a bit. Presently, I am grabbing the shell with pliers and hitting the pliers lightly with a small hammer to free it. The loader is a very old MEC 600 that was given away at my club. The extra step is no big deal and the loaded shells are beautiful. I don't know how they will feed in a Model 42, but the deprime station seems to include a sizer.

Stan Hillis 02-06-2025 07:43 AM

Bill, are all of them sticking? If only a few, then I noticed when boxing them up for you that I had already deprimed and resized some of them. If so, they were resized with my MEC Super Sizer. That thing's so strong it may have downsized some of the primer pockets.

Bill Murphy 02-06-2025 04:31 PM

No, I think that the hollow rod that goes into the shell is digging into the base wad if there is one. No big deal. I'll modify the rod so that the edge of the thing isn't so sharp.

Bill Murphy 02-08-2025 08:57 AM

I find that these shells fit just fine in any gun I've tried them in, whether they have been through the sizer or not. Whoopee! I will shoot some this weekend if the weather gets better.

There is some 410 ammo available locally. But, you'll pay for it. There is a friend that has several flats of AA #9s at $140/flat + freight. He's offering them with a 10 flat minimum.

Those 3" WW shells are only a buck more expensive than the 2 1/2". Are we sure the 3" are 25 shell boxes?

Larry Stauch 02-09-2025 08:59 PM

How many do you get?

Yes Bill, they are a full box of 25. Heck, this outfit will even sell you steel .410 Winchesters at $25.51/box of 25. The AA HS #9 Skeet at Walmart are $16.85/box.

That is $27.50 and $23.50 per box without shipping! I'll stick with the Challengers for $14.50 a box shipped.

Bill Murphy 02-24-2025 08:58 AM

Since I have a lifetime supply of wads and primers from "the old days" that were mostly gifted or paid for with old money, my .410 loads using $58.00 shot, probably cost me about $1.75 a box for 2 1/2" loads. That is $17.50 a flat. I hope my arithmetic is close. "Watch the obituaries."
