 Minnesota Canvasbacks

I had a fun day hunting on a public hunting area in South West Minnesota this morning and bagging a limit of bull Canvasbacks. A flock of 8, all bulls or drakes, came into the decoys and my friend and I shot a limit of 2 a piece. I shot my 2 with one shot out of my EH 10 Gauge and 1 1/8 oz of #4 Bismuth being propelled by 3 1/2 drams of FF Goex. The bull Canvasback in my opinion is a trophy in the water fowling world.

And they eat real good also

Great shoot Matt. The big 10 has been good to you, beautiful birds.

It's my vote for the tastiest duck.

Two bull cans with one shot. Outstanding!

I love the big bull Cans and drake Blacks. We used to shoot some beautiful bull Cans in late January in Oklahoma.

Congratulations. Taking two cleanly with a special gun — it doesn’t get any better.

Some day, its on my bucket list as is redhead and brant

and what a ducker to hunt them out of too!

The Alumacraft Ducker is a great boat. Mine is one of the last ones built without the holes in the deck for stabilizing poles.

 Looking good!

What could be better than a Trojan as the perfect 'fowl' weather gun?!

The color on the wings is beautiful. It says Fall. That is Nature at her best.

I shot another Bull Canvasback with the EH yesterday on the same point we shot the 4 last year that started this thread. I had a pair come in and hit the bull and missed the hen. I grabbed a couple if my hand loads out of a box of ones that I thought were smokeless but to my surprise were black powder when I shot. I love making smoke with these older Parkers.

 Congrats on a great hunt

Way to go! Nothing better than a great Can and a great Parker. What frame is your EH? I don’t know a lot about 10s.
	 |

3 Frame so it weights a little over 9lbs. The 3 frame is the most common on the 10 gauges.

 Thanks
	I use a three frame 12 gauge DHE. |

I'd take a pair of decoying canvasback over 20 mallards.

Another good day on Cans. A friend of mine and myself shot these three. It’s not a Parker but the W & C Scott is still a classy waterfowl double in my book.

I want to be where you are! NICE
I went to the opener on a nearby lake in Indiana yesterday. The fisherpersons there were as rude as possible to the duck hunters that were there nearly 2 hours before any of them. One of them even played their stereo full blast at 7 am just to aggravate us. You are a lucky guy. |

Great hunt with the WC Scott again Matt. You are bringing life back to the old classics.

Wow! Canvasbacks with a side-by-side. Matt, you are a lucky duck.

Great pic! I would love to get a canvasback. Almost got one on Currituck Sound but they did not get close enough.
