Vintage Cup preparations !

3 Attachment(s)
About all I’ve shot this year at Sanford , Hausemann’s and Rock Mountain have been 8’s and 10’s . And to make matters worse I’d not reloaded any of the hulls until last week . I’ve still got a couple hundred of the Seyfried 1 1/4 ounce 7625 loaded so I’ll not make any of them . But I do wanna replenish the Green Dot 1 1/8 ounce loads as well as a few boxes of Green Dot ounce loads . Mr. Koneski gave me a Unique load for 1 1/4 I wanna load a box or two and try as well as modify a bit for 1 1/8 ounce as well as ounce loads . Of course all this is in preparation for the Vintage Cup in October my plan is to shoot atleast two of the 10 gauge events and both the 8 gauge events .

You were there at Warrington last year , it was quite hot . I seriously doubt two weeks later will make a difference . I think the slight move was to appease the dove shooters .

The sight move was due to Warrington's mismanagement of the shoot. Sad because it was a good venue.

I meant the move in the date of the shoot .

The Oct. date is horrible if you hunt birds or deer. If you want the shoot to succeed keep the same date from year to year.

I had no idea we were in the company of such a poet.

Whenever it is held, Warrington would not be the preferred SITE. What a terrible experience.

I’d have been more pleased if the guy that runs the boxbird ring at Warrington had been there and pigeons available for practice .

October’s okay I’m not really an avid archery deer Hunter anymore so the first weekend missed doesn’t bother me . Plus I have the entire month of September as antlerless rifle season . Makes no sense before archery season but this will be the third year of the September season in my county .

Trying to find the place without a GPS unit in the car reminded me of how the Germans reversed all the road signs inland from the beach before and during the invasion of Normandy.

I shot the LC Smith Turkey Shoot at Warrington in 2021 . A fair amount of folks came there and the shoot all be it smaller was run a lot better . Now with that being said there was a different guy running the club in 2021 .

Are there BnBs near Hopkins and hotels? Will we, Parker Collectors, book a block of rooms anywhere near?

Mike Koneski 08-06-2024 08:02 AM

Funny how when the Vintagers said their shoot was no longer scheduled, we moved ours to that September weekend. A week later they suddenly decided it’s back on because “That is our weekend”. Now it’s in October. October is for the Fall Southern.

Bill Murphy 08-06-2024 08:37 AM

John, Google "Hotels near Chestertown, MD."

Well I for one am glad you didn't get that weekend and instead do the end of July. I thought it was pretty crappy what they did when you announced you wanted to hold a shoot on that date. Yes, the fall is for the Fall Southern and if it wasn't for my annual trip to SD, I'd be there and not at Hopkins.

Harry

Harry,
You can't keep moving an event from venue to venue, year after year, and expect people to be able to mark their calendars. Set a date and a venue and keep it there for a few years. Just my opinion and I'm sure yours will differ.

The first time I went to Hausmann's, too many years ago, I was following my GPS and ended up in the dooryard of a farm. I waved at the woman standing there, and backed out. Five minutes later, I was back in her yard. She walked over to me and said so calmly "If I knew you were coming back so soon I would have put the coffee pot on." I would imagine it wasn't the first time because she told me, without asking, how to get to Flynn Rd.

Harold Lee Pickens 08-06-2024 08:09 PM

Edgar , the first time I went to Hausmanns, I followed my GPS and think I ended up in that same farmers yard, he promptly asked me if I was looking for Hausmanns.
The next year I dead ended into a cemetery.
No trouble getting there now. Would love to shoot with you again there.

Right there with you Deanno!! For 25+ years, The Vintage Cup was held toward the end of September. It was a hallowed weekend, much like opening day of trout, deer and grouse season, circled in red on the calendar months in advance. An epic, marketing blunder to move off of those dates! Akin to moving The Southern to July, The Super Bowl to March or playing The Masters in October. That dog just don't hunt and consequently, the AHFCA will be sitting this one out. :banghead::cuss::banghead:

According to their webpage that doesn’t seem to be the case  You might need to click on the picture to see it ,

Hopkins is a very professional operation for sporting clays. George has been in the business since the beginning of the sport. However, the vendor response was very poor the first year the Vintagers was held there. The Vintagers was a great vendor venue when it was held in Millbrook, and even at Pintail Point. It was a real "Game Fair" British style. It could be the same atmosphere in Maryland at Hopkins. But how does anyone do that? Beats me. I think the vendors are tired, and running out of big spenders. I hope more of the original vendors come back this year.
