I don’t shoot guns that weight more than I do.

When I owned a Charles Lancaster 8 b with 36 inch barrels and weight 13 lbs, the recoil using 1 & 3/4 oz shot was very mild. Depends on weight of shotgun, etc.
sorry that it was sold |

Mine is a ca1903 Davenport Goose Gun. It is a single with a 36 inch barrel and weighs 11 pounds. Recoil with Tom Armbrust's 1-1/2 ounce loads is very mild.
|
My 8g is a 1908 mfg gun, 14" LOP, 3 1/8" DAH 12 lb 4 oz, 34" Twist barrels choked F/F.

And Mike shoots it well !
|
I must admit I love my 8 gauge but it is a bit awkward to shoot after breaking my shoulder months back(and no it wasn't caused by recoil lol)

W. & C. Scott hammergun 38 inch barrels.

My first eight was purchased in 1969, the week I left the Army. It was my ETS present, a mint, cased, bar in wood Westley Richards. I still have it. I have been buying and shooting eights ever since. Wow, that's fifty five years. Now, I only have one I can pick up and shoot. I think the rest are on their way out, much as I love them. I don't think I have ever sold an eight.

GH 8ga 36" damascus. 1911 Mfd date. barrel Unstruck weight 8 lbs 12oz.
Chokes are both full with at least .042 constriction. (My bore gauge only goes 3" deep in the bores.) #6 frame, total weight is 13 lbs even. Serialization book has it listed as D3 H 0 C 8 36. The grade in the book should have been "D2", grade 2 gun with damascus bbls. |
That is nice.
