Fox Field Gun Challenge at Rock Mountain's SxS Challenge!!

Wrapped things up speaking with Daryl today and the Fox Field Gun Challenge is back on!! It can be shot Thursday, Friday all day and Saturday until noon. To qualify your gun must weigh 6 lb 13 oz or less and can be from any manufacturer. A heavier gun can shoot but will not qualify for the $$. The event will payout 50-30-20, all ties split to satisfy 3 places. This payout will be done for every 10 shooters so there will be multiple payouts over the weekend. Cost will be $35 with $10 going into the payout pot. Total targets is 25 shot on the 5-Stand. Enter as many times as you like. Daryl will post the event here and on the Fox site.

As Michael Buffer would say, "Leeeeeeet's get ready to rumbllllllllle!!"

The 2024 Fox field gun challenge

As Mike posted earlier here are the particulars for the challenge:

The Fox Field Gun Challenge is back on!! As the title suggests we will moving this event to Evil Mike's shoot in July. This is a field gun event so of course it will be shot low gun. Gun weights will be verified in the clubhouse. Stay tuned for any updates or changes to the event as I, Mike or Pres. Trump will do it just because we can. Have fun!!

Owning a Fox is not a spectator sport.

Harry

6lb, 13oz. because that's more or less the sweet spot for a field gun meant to be carried more than shot. I'll have a few guns that qualify for those that would like to play but only have 2 frame 10 gauges or 15lb 8 gauges:whistle:
I prefer them closer to 6lb or a little less.

Good move Daryl and Mike.

I'd rather see a modified (and more interesting) Make a Break setup on the 5 stand rather than a specific menu at each of the five stations and with multiple clay trajectories to remember at each and every station? How about the thrower's choice of two easier targets for the first shot and shooter's choice of increasing difficulty targets and score points for the second bird? 10 report pairs/shooter for score.

Randy G Roberts 06-20-2024 09:09 AM

Hmmmm. My records indicate that within the vault lies a VHE 16 with 32" F/F tubes weighing in at a sultry 6-12 oz. I will double check that prior to interrogation and possible confiscation by the anticipated Weigh In Gestapo :rotf:

Great idea Frank. Sort of like the grouse walk to simulate a field experience. Between Evil Mike and I, we will come up with something other than standard 5 stand.

No MIB style, basic 5-Stand. Not enough double-gunners are up to speed on a MIB but they know 5-Stand and like shooting it. Daryl and I discussed this and we are in agreement the the 5-Stand will work best.

I would second Frank's idea of a Make or Break event, just to spice things up a bit:cool:

I know, us old SXS shooters are not easy to teach a new event, but after shooting a few times, it is a fun competitive game. That being said, it takes more personel, let me know if I can be of any help there BIG Guy!

I'd rather have you shooting all weekend than sitting on my 5-Stand pushing buttons and keeping score.

Stan Hoover 06-21-2024 12:14 PM

You may come out ahead if I'm pushing buttons and keeping score on your 5 stand:)

Those two Hoosier gentlemen that I hear are coming, they're sure to have pockets full of cash:bigbye:

I only come to Mike's shoot to practice for the Hoosier Classic. Since it has been canceled
this year, there is no reason for me to make the trip.

You can still come down. We will go shoot somewhere else and then cook bluegill and drink some beer while perusing some old double guns.

Here’s the skinny, we are opening up the Fox Field Gun Challenge to any gun. The gun doesn’t have to be 6 lb 13 oz to enter. Even one of the 12+ lb 8g guns can enter! You’re welcome.

Not at all my friend. Just a general statement.

I would think it should be ''FOX Guns only''

Harry

Since you don’t shoot it doesn’t matter what you think an event should be.

Mike Koneski 07-23-2024 06:08 PM

BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Actually, our prices are cheaper than the other shoots. Targets, trappers and bling for the events.

We’re done here Harry. If you have any more of your usual negative comments, do it one-on-one.

Nice! Low gun with a 8-gauge double gun. I don't own one but I'm looking forward to watching. :)

Andrew Sacco 07-24-2024 09:27 AM

I don't think i'll make it all to the Rock : (

Harold Lee Pickens 07-24-2024 08:57 PM

I won't be making it this year either Andy, have made the past 3 yrs. Truck is in the shop, expected to get it back some time tomorrow, throttle body needs replaced, has 180,000 miles on it. Two good shooters from Wheeling should be there, Mark made the Fox squad last year with my SW 16, and friend Chris going with him. I think both are shooting LC Smiths now however.
Mike puts on a fun shoot, sorry to miss it this time.

Andrew Sacco 07-25-2024 12:34 PM

Sorry to hear Harold. It's been a crazy year. Two weeks in Italy has put me behind, and my associate it out on vacation so I actually have to work close to 38 hours!! OH NO!! And then my tractor died just got it back and I'm weeks behind food plot work, plus family obligations. I sometimes long to be retired but don't want to wish the years away. Hope every one who goes has fun.

Dan Steingraber 07-25-2024 09:31 PM

Great day at The Rock today. Great targets and great people.
