help with e grade

Would like info on number of E grade parkers . This one is ser. 69332 and has a 2 above ser no. It is a 12 gauge. thanks Thomas L. Benson Sr.

George Blair 08-26-2009 12:04 AM

Thomas an E grade would be a 10Ga. The 2 would indicate grade. The same gun in any other guage would be a G grade, or a 2 grade.

Gun is now a 12. Do you think the barrels have been changed. I purchased it at a fish and game auction about 3 years ago and sent it to my son in minnesota 2 years ago. I will have him take some pictures and post them. Thanks Thomas L. Benson Sr.

Does the serial # on the barrels and the forearm match the reciever? If they do it could have been part of a two barrel set, or sent back later to be rebarreled. I would be sending for a letter if the #'s match.

Thomas, is it a hammer gun or hammerless?

Dave Suponski 08-26-2009 08:07 AM

If there is an "E" on the water table it would be a hammerless gun.

Dave Noreen 08-26-2009 01:10 PM

My 1889-vintage hammerless quality 2 is also stamped E on the watertable, but it is a heavy 2-frame 12-gauge, and letters as such.

Dave Suponski 08-26-2009 01:28 PM

Dave,

Thats very interesting...An E grade 12gauge! Well I guess the old expression"Never Say Never" applies here :)

George Blair 08-26-2009 04:12 PM

Well that shows how much I know..I was sure all E grade and N grades were 10 Ga..

Destry L. Hoffard 08-26-2009 04:35 PM

George,

Don't feel bad, I thought the same thing.

That is what we have been told by the authors of TPS.

Once again, this just goes to reinforce "Never say never".

Dave Suponski 08-26-2009 06:19 PM

I would really like to see the stock and order book entries for Dave's gun.

Dave Noreen 08-27-2009 12:31 PM

I think in theory they were, but what happens on the factory floor with workers getting product out the door and "in theory" are two very different things. A Quality 2, number 2-frame could certainly end up with either a set of 12-gauge or a set of lighter 10-gauge barrels, so whether stamped E or G probably wasn't of great concern to workers at the time.

For reference the markings on a normal run-of-the-Gunworks #3 frame, Grade 2 aka "E" 10 gauge...

Bill Zachow 08-27-2009 07:15 PM

For the record, guys, I know of an "N" that is a lettered 8 gauge.

My 12-gauge 2-frame Damascus barrel gun that is marked with a 2 above the serial number and an E below is serial number 56213. It is lettered as a Dam 2 PG hammerless by Mark. What doesn't letter is the number 2 set of barrels that ate 32-inch Vulcan Steel 20-gauge barrels. My gun was at The Vintage Cup in 2005 and 2008 when I drove, but I'm flying in this year, so it won't be coming.
