New 8g Reloads
2 Attachment(s)
I have a cubic butt-load of Winchester industrial hulls that were disassembled by cutting off the crimp. So, these hulls are 3" instead of 3 1/2". No problem. I used the same new basic wad column but left out the 1/2" fiber wad from the shot cup. Then added an 8g OSC and made a roll crimp. This'll work.

Would the hull not successfully roll crimp without cutting some off? Where did you get your roll crimper?

So here are some of the Winchester industrial "short" hulls with the Gualandi Hi-Cap wad. No other change in the wad column.

Better pic here, that last one was a wonky angle.

Bill, the roll crimper is a single pin die from BP.

Thanks.

You're welcome

Since on the 8 gauge subject,I thought I'd throw this in.Im working on converting a PW 375 to 8 gauge, and have a guy modifying a couple parts for me.Hope to have it up and running in a couple weeks.Anyway I was on the phone with Ponsness Warren this morning ordering a part and mentioned I'm doing this conversion and they told me they are working on an 8 gauge kit for the 375 loader.I guess they are swamped and didn't know when it would be available.Just thought I'd pass along this info.
BTW nice looking roll crimps. Jeff. |
If I were 40 years old, I would wait for the PW 8 gauge conversion. However, I'm 41 and will be long dead before they come up with it.

That's good news Jeff! Now I might have to keep an eye out for a PW 375. If I can find one for the right price it'll be worth getting it and then the 8g conversion kit. But then again, my MEC built machine by Ken Burns works just fine......

Bill, If you want a BPI 8ga roll crimper, you can have mine. The Nick Ross 6 pin crimper does a much nicer job, and doesn't gall the plastic like the BPI. The galled edge breaks after one or two shots.
The Winchester was done with the BPI, and the Remington hull was done with the Ross. |
I've used the 6 pin crimper (on the black Remington hulls) and the BPI crimper on my Winchesters I don't think I really have a preference. I have not gotten around to trying the 6 pin crimper on the paper hulls yet. I've experimented quite a bit on 8 ga loads, found out I could make better wads than I could buy. I should revisit making my plastic shot cups but they only patterned well at 70-80 yards which I didn't find useful.

Edgar, I sent you an email. Thanks.
