4th Annual Southern RI Parker Shoot - 4/13

Hello Everyone,

I am excited to keep this tradition going. This Parker shoot will be on Saturday April 13th at 10AM at Peace Dale Shooting Preserve in South Kingstown, Rhode Island: https://www.pdshootingpreserve.com

We'll do the main sporting clays course and they have 5-stand for later if anyone is interested. Based on some feedback from last year, I was thinking we could do a cookout, after we shoot? There is a picnic area and grills. I would need some help for this part, but I think it would be nice. And I can have some tables set up so that members could display their Parkers.

I would like to give them an estimate of the size of our group so please let me know if you can attend.

It is always so nice to see and meet PGCA members in person as well as new shooters. I have a few “new” Parkers to show off to some of you since last year. Hopefully, we will have some nice weather and a fun shoot!

Looking forward to it!
Jay

Nope. Robin Hollow is at Addieville East Farms. Peace Dale is in RI near CT border off I95

bob lyons 02-25-2024 07:58 PM

Jay
Unfortunately I most likely will not be able to make this year.
Bob

Jay Oliver 02-25-2024 09:08 PM

Hi Larry and Bob, I am sorry you won't be able to make it this year. Hopefully, I will see you over the summer or at another shoot. Talk to you soon, Jay

Jay Oliver 03-14-2024 06:32 AM

Less than a month away! Looking forward to it!

allen newell 03-15-2024 04:59 PM

Jay, if you still plan to have a cookout/ lunch, let me know what you'd like me to bring for food and drink.

Allen Molin 03-15-2024 06:32 PM

Jay, my passenger and I will be there. Thank you.

Jay Oliver 03-15-2024 08:33 PM

Looking forward to this shoot. Hoping for great weather and a great turnout. Yes, I am going to do more of a cookout this year. There is a grill there and I can bring some coolers. It would be great to have some help with this part.

At lunch I was also going have tables to display some Parkers as well. Some show and tell with some good food sounds like a great way to end the shoot. Any ideas on how to get a PCGA banner I can hang/display?

I can't wait to see you all there!

allen newell 03-18-2024 02:38 PM

I'll help jay

Steven Wilson 03-25-2024 06:13 PM

I’m 90% sure I’m going to be able to attend; last year was my first time and it was a blast. Jay keep us posted on the number of attendees, I will make a batch of elk chili. Steve

Steven Wilson 04-04-2024 03:47 PM

Looks like Don McQuade and I are in for PeaceDale for sure. We are done raining up here, right?

Donald McQuade 04-08-2024 01:34 PM

Hi Jay

Getting close to time for the shoot. Any particular time folks should plan on getting there? Also, is there still going to be a cookout? Should we bring anything? I can bring a bunch of hotdogs to throw on a grill if one is available. Also, some potato salad and paper plates if that would help.
Let me know if you have any plans.

Jay Oliver 04-09-2024 11:08 AM

I am am so excited we will all be shooting together this weekend. Yes, there will be a grill and I will have a cooler. So yes a cookout after shooting should be great. I will bring some hamburgers as well and some drinks. Sound like with all of the food everyone is bringing we will have a feast! I think this will be a fun part of the shoot to relax and talk Parkers after our perfect shooting scores :)

I am also going to have few tables for displaying Parkers as well. Looking forward to a great day and the weather looks good for us.

Let's plan on getting there at 9:30 so we can be ready to go out on the course at 10am.

Please let me know if you have any questions and see you Saturday!
Jay

Do I need to pack my gun carriage for this event?

Jay Oliver 04-09-2024 08:56 PM

Allen, You may want to bring it just in case. I did reserve 4 golf carts, but I don't mind walking the course either. I am going to bring a few Parkers, including the sweet 16ga 0 frame TA hammer gun I just bought from a member. We are going to have a great time!

CraigThompson 04-10-2024 04:07 AM

Is there going to be a seperate 8 gauge event ? Asking for as Koneski says “a friend” :rotf:

allen newell 04-10-2024 06:09 AM

Jay, thanks for the reply. I'll pack the gun cart. Will probably bring a couple of guns anyway

allen newell 04-10-2024 04:46 PM

Jay, somethings come up that I have to take care of on Saturday. I'm going to have to pass on this shoot regrettably. All the best

I am looking forward to a great shoot on Saturday. I know things come up, but we should have a great time. One of the things I am excited about this year was doing a little show and tell after the shoot while we are eating lunch.

I will have some tables out for display. As a teaser, I am bringing two early lifters from the the first year of production.

Top - #019: 27 5/8" Decarbonized Steel Barrels, chambered in 12b

Bottom - #029: 28" Decarbonized Steel Barrels, chambered in 12b

When I bought it I noticed #019 had the "newer" front action hammers, I have some back action hammers I could switch, but I am going to leave it as it was found for now.

For shells you will see 2 original Parker 12b shells next to some I had made by RMC.

Looking forward to a great time and see you Saturday!

"Jay, I'm sorry that I missed the shoot. I was planning on attending but an issue arose at home that I needed to address. I'll make it next year for sure and God willing." 4-18-23

"Jay, I'd like to go but our annual sprung sale starts on the 26th and I'm scheduled to work thar day. Maybe next year. Best to all." 3-19-22

Allen, you need to start working on your excuse for 2025. They're getting a little repetitive.

allen newell 04-11-2024 06:24 PM

Shit happens Edgar

allen newell 04-12-2024 07:14 AM

Edgar, don't tell anyone but I'll be at the shoot tomorrow.

Jay Oliver 04-12-2024 08:50 AM

Tomorrow is the big day. Looking forward to a great day of shooting and talking Parkers! The weather looks good(the rain is moving out today) and I know we will have a lot of fun.

Please be there at 9:30 so we can head out on the course at 10. After shooting we will have a nice cookout and look at and talk Parkers. It should be a wonderful day!

Let me now if you have any questions and I will see you in the morning,
Jay

allen newell 04-12-2024 03:26 PM

Jay, I picked up desert for us tomorrow after shooting

Steven Wilson 04-12-2024 05:10 PM

I have Coke, Ginger Ale and beer.

Jay Oliver 04-12-2024 05:42 PM

I am going to bring stuff for the grill: burgers, hot dogs. I get some chips as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

allen newell 04-13-2024 03:41 PM

Thank you Jay for putting this shoot together and for hosting lunch afterwards. Thanks to all who contributed to this as well.
The shoot was much fun. The clays were well suited at each station for us. It was great fun.
And if Edgar doesn't convince me otherwise, I may actually shoot this event next year. Lol. But seriously it's a fun course.

If shaming you into getting your chores done is what it takes to get you there, than it's worth it.

We all had a good time, weather not withstanding. As is often the case for this old man, I run out of steam before I run out of targets. Next time, I'll shoot the course backwards, to see what a few more broken birds looks like at 12,13 and 14.

Seeing Jay's cased pair of the earliest known Parkers was worth the trip. Shooting my new BHE was the icing on the cake.

allen newell 04-13-2024 06:46 PM

Very nice Parkers on display after the shoot as well as on the course.
Next year, I'll bring my gun carriage so I can shoot the course with my 16 and my Iver Johnson 410 Skeeter. A number of stations threw close in clays, close enough for that little Skeeter which is fun to shoot.
Oh, and Edgar, it was worth it.

I hated to miss this this year but I had arranged to have the boys help me install cabinets, hand rails and some electrical work in maine cottage. The weather must have been perfect.More photos please.
See you all next year.
Nice looking trap gun?

The weather was not the best, but not the worst. I thought that was a lot of fun and really everything I had envisioned.

Some good shooting in the morning with a little friendly competition. Re-group after for lunch with Parkers all around to admire and talk about.

I was shooting a very new to me 0 frame 16 TA hammer gun that I got from a PGCA member just last week. It shot wonderfully both close and far. Definitely a keeper!

Looking forward to doing it again next year!

Steven Wilson 04-14-2024 08:45 AM

Fantastic day, thank you for putting it together. It was great to put faces and personalities with some names I’ve seen on this forum. Great group of first class folks, beautiful shotguns, great shooting all around and nice camaraderie around the grill afterwards. Thank you Jay and everyone there.
