Ithaca Flues 16G.- Grade 4
This is a 1909 Ithaca Flues, grade 4. It is a 16 gauge with 30" BBLs with what I believe is called American Flag damascus steel. I really like the look and feel/balance of this gun.

Wow, nice! I usually bring my NID 4E 16 to SD, but I dont like the flat safety on it in that cold--will be back up there mid January again. I love the checkering pattern on your fore end. Mine is a 28" M/F

What a beaut! And that Ithaca engraving…

The peak of Ithaca fit/finish.

I have a Gr 4 Flues 16 much like that. Sold for a song at auction because the cocking hook was warn and jumped out of place (the bane of Flues). My timing was great. The guy who made reproduction hooks stopped. I decided to send it to the guy who should be able to fix it, waited too long and he passed away. I have bought 2 used hooks and one entire parts gun and discovered during days of work that every gun is totally different as to the fit of the hook, forend iron and action. This is true even within the same gauge. I have 6 or 7 graded FLues. They are beautiful with their engraving, wood and barrels (especially chain demascus) but the maintenance if they develope a problem will run you bonkers.

I have an incessant habit of constantly checking the safety without looking. The 3 position safety messes me up more than dexterity. If you find yourself with some extra time when you are passing through in January, stop by! Best - Dean |

Are you telling me to dump it? :rotf: Best - Dean |
Yep. Ithaca called the pattern "American Flag". It was also "Washington"

Just posting a cautionary tale to buyers. They aren't the most robust guns (the NID tops about all classic double there) and getting them repaired is not easy. This is one place buying the best you can find is important. Yours looks to be in that category. |
Wow, what a nice shotgun!
