Ohio buck
1 Attachment(s)
This prehistoric looking monster was taken on our sportsman club in Eastern Ohio during bow season. Nontypical early scoring was 221.

A corn and bean fed behemoth!!
|
i would really be curious on what the age would be on this buck, do you know if this was checked Harold?
|
Main agriculture in this area is beef and hay
Not much corn or beans in the area. But area has always produced big deer. Don't know if it was aged, I imagine it was/will be |
I'd guess 5-7 years without seeing it's front and rear quarters in profile. Genetics is the major factor in antler size but nutrition plays a role also.

That’s why we keep jaw bones. You can age the deer by tooth wear.

This buck is a dream come true. I have wished upon a star many times but that star never answered
Congratulations to that eastern Ohio bow hunter! A buck of a lifetime Jim |
Jim, that buck came out of Jefferson county.
|
Is the hair on the legs typical for Ohio, Harold? It sure looks longer than it does on big deer here in GA. May just be due to the climate.
|
Stan, it could be caused in part by Bergman’s rule? The rule is that the closer you get to the poles, the larger the deer’s body gets. That may also influence the hair too.
|
Yea, but this is eastern Ohio ,not the Northwoods
We grow big deer with big racks here. Seems like there is a big buck in every hollow |
