Gun show PH today (long post)
12 Attachment(s)
Well guys, I went to the second day of a small gun show in Concord (we say con-ked), NH this morning on a last minute decision. At the second table I came to was this 12 Gauge Parker PH on a dealers display. I asked if I could look at it and he immediately said yes, and that he would cut me a deal on it as he knew "nothing about them", and with the Damascus barrels, folks do not think it is "safe to shoot". I looked the gun over and liked it, but being a "new" parker convert with only one gun, my 0 frame 16 gauge, I really needed to do some checking on just what this gun was (is). I walked around the show and seeing nothing else that I was interested in, I went out to my truck and got my "Parker Gun ID" book and went back to the PH. Pulled the gun apart. The good. #1 frame gun, all numbers match, 28" uncut twist barrels with outstanding bores, no dents or dings. Metal pretty nice, no case colors but engraving still sharp and clear. Lever about centered. Serial #84141, not listed in book. The bad. Stock cut, but lop of 14 1/4"(good) over 1" pad (bad pad). Stock refinished sometime in the distant past and all checkering gone, but original stock. Grip cap not original and needs replacing as it does not fit well. "slight" wiggle in action when closed.
Not knowing if this was worth buying I left the show and came home. Called both Dave and Dean for advise and was only able to get Dean at the time. Dave was off shooting or something like that! Dean thought the gun was worth buying, so I went back to the show and after a brief negotiation, bought the gun. Here are some pics and particulars. $450 out the door. #1 Frame 12 gauge, PH with Twist barrels, great bores 7Lb 12 Oz 28" barrels (uncut) I am pretty happy with my second Parker and after getting the walls measured, I plan on getting it to the range. Eventually I will get it tightned up, have the checkering recut(maybe), put a period correct pad on it and replace the grip cap. |

Stephen: You did good! Get those screws in the floorplate fixed (aligned) and you'll have a nice shooter for not much money. Check the PGCA site, there may be a research letter available for your gun.
Best Regards, George |

It doesn't look loose to me. I would buy it. Nice gun. By the way, you didn't post pictures of the "bad pad". I bet it isn't that bad. Post a picture.

Bill- Here is a pic with the white line pad. The gun is tight on face, but has a slight "wiggle" when you twist it.

Nice find. You did well. I hope it gets alot of use.

Looks like a real nice find. Congrats.

Pad
My VH had a white line on it when I got it, also bad. Fortunately, the screw holes were the same spacing as the Silver, and there were no other holes in the wood, so if the same for yours, you will likely be able to fit a Silver without having to add holes in the buttstock.
Would be interesting if the gun was ordered without checkering. Not likely, but who knows what the records might show. And, I do not often see 1 frame 12s. Most of the PH12s I have seen were on 2 frames. |
Yes, the frame size makes for a very nice handling gun. I am taking it to Britannia Sporting Arms in Portsmouth, NH tomorrow to get the barrels checked out.

Greg, very nice, I do love 16'! I bet thats a sweet gun to shoot!!
And Pete, I wish I could make it down tomorrow night, but can't. Let me know what night (S) you guys will be shooting next week though. |
Update on the P gun. I just returned from the 'smith and got the particulars on my gun. The barrels are in great shape, minimum wall thickness of 38 & 36. Choked IM and a tight full. Chambers not lengthned, still original. I got 7Lb 14oz on my digital scale, but on his she weights 7Lb 4 Oz. Guess I better get a new scale. One barrel is fine but one has three small dents, I missed that, but they are pretty small. No pitting in either barrel. The worst news is that the "wiggle" in the barrels was a little worse than I thought. Off face and definately needs fixing. Bottom line is I left the gun to be put right. Dents will be raised, put back on face and fix the screws. Be there a couple of months. $100 for the dents and $350 to tighten up. Not bad in my mind. Now I just have to wait.
