Parker “P” Grade Shotgun

Hi I am a new member and I am NEW to collecting and learning about Parker’s. I have a P grade with some ornate engravings and a Damascus barrel. Did the P grades have much engravings generally speaking? I checked the water table it’s marked with a “P”. Thank you !

Jim DiSpagno 11-18-2023 08:37 PM

Pictures would help as P grades had minimal engraving

J. Scott Hanes 11-18-2023 09:10 PM

"A" barrel? or Barrels?

Dean Romig 11-19-2023 05:49 AM

Is it a hammer gun or hammerless?

Does it say Damascus Steel on the top rib?

The “P” or Grade 1 in either configuration would normally have had either Twist or Laminated Steel.

Your post is a little confusing. A 'P' grade is a Grade one, but the inverse isn't necessarily so. I have never seen a grade 1 hammer gun with a P on the watertable, nor have I seen a P grade with anything but 'Twist' or 'Parker Steel' barrels.

When I get home from deer camp I will post pics of both hammerless and hammer Grade 1 guns with Laminated Steel barrels.

Edgar, a mutual friend acquired a20 ga. Hammergun late production that had a P on the water table

edgarspencer 11-19-2023 11:12 AM

It won't be the last time I was wrong, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first either.

edit: TPS has an asterisk under 'laminated' to indicate there were, in fact, 20.

Dean Romig 11-19-2023 11:54 AM

Edgar, are you looking in the Grades section for both hammerless and hammer guns?

Yes. Under Hammerless, there is an asterisk in the Laminated column. The foornote says they are listed as PT but the stock books show 20 of the to have Laminated steel barrels.

Dean Romig 11-19-2023 12:55 PM

Ok but several Grade 1 hammer guns were made with Laminated Steel barrels and I have owned three of them in 16 gauge on the 0-frame and still have one.

Yes, I agree, but that wasn't what I was (incorrectly) questioning. My question related to Lam barrels on HammerLESS guns, which I now know, existed.

This one belongs to a friend in VT.

I sent the barrels to Brad Bachelder for him and they came out beautifully.

There are a couple of anomallys - the legend on the rib says Damascus and the stamp on the right barrel flat where the steel type is normally stamped... is stamped with a T for Twist Steel.

I am trying to figure out how to upload the Parker P grade engravings will do asap. It’s a Damascus barrel and it’s hammer less.

A couple?
I came home with a puppy that smelled like a skunk. Turned out, it was a fox.

I have a grade 1 lifter with a P on the water table. Scarce, but they exist.

GunnerGrilli 11-19-2023 11:32 PM

Gentlemen, the "suspense" is killing me.

As we are in the "Single Barrel Trap" forum. Are we talking about a "barrel", or "barrels"......

Thanks.............:corn:

Weird isn't it Bobby, how we get distracted and off on other tangents?

But, looking back, nothing on this particular thread was about SBT guns.:rotf:

Guilty as charged... :bigbye:

I also own a PH 16 gauge hammerless with Laminated Steel barrels, or is it a 20? Hold on.

Dean Romig 11-20-2023 11:09 AM

......we're waiting Bill....

Bill Murphy 11-20-2023 01:49 PM

My PH hammerless Laminated gun is a 20.

Dean Romig 11-21-2023 09:01 AM

I would love to see that desirable little Parker!

John Davis 11-21-2023 09:59 AM

Bobby

I was confused too! SBT forum and there was talk of hammer or hammerless. Knew Parker didn't make SBT hammer guns. I started wondering who/what/where/when someone ordered a SBT in an external hammer configuration? Mein kupf schmartzen!

John, I’ll agree it has an external hammer, but it’s not on a side-plate. A Winchester 1897 has an external hammer too.
