P series

Friend of mine picked up a Parker repro 20 gauge. He was wondering what the “P” series means?

Thank you in advance

Donald F. Mills 10-20-2023 05:21 PM

The P guns were Prototypes that were the first of many Parker Reproduction guns made. I own P-420 also a 20 ga.

Jeff Elder 10-20-2023 05:25 PM

Thank you Don

Greg Baehman 10-21-2023 12:44 PM

Regarding the “P” guns, has anyone seen or heard of one in any gauge other than a twenty?

Brian Dudley 10-21-2023 04:03 PM

I recently had a few P series guns in my shop. A single and a double digit number. I think the one was number P-4 if I recall.

edgarspencer 10-21-2023 08:11 PM

Greg can probably answer this; After the P-xx serial numbers, how many were serialized with just a number, and not the Gauge, followed by a dash, and the number?

Greg Baehman 10-21-2023 08:47 PM

Gosh Edgar, if we're talking specifically about Parker Reproductions, I can’t recall ever seeing or hearing of any. But, that’s not to say there are none out there, as we never say never, right?

edgarspencer 10-21-2023 09:45 PM

I’ll see if a friend who has one with a 3 digit SN will let me take a picture of it.

roger mcmanimon 10-22-2023 03:38 PM

I've got P-36 that I bought new in the box a few years ago, it is also a 20.

Bill Murphy 10-22-2023 08:16 PM

There isn't much information or history on P repros. Some are common, some are a bit nice. In messing with and collecting these guns for decades, I have not seen a P gun that had much to brag about. Just saying it like it is.

I brag too about P-00308 16/20 set w/ both 28" Q1/Q2 bbls.

Todd's 20 GA barrels have British Proof, do they not, as well as Parker Reproduction Proof. I have never seen that before.

You're right Bob, Todd's gun obviously spent time in England before being exported back into the USA. His 20ga. set of barrels' Q1/Q2 choke designations are a bit different than customarily seen--the 1 & 2 numbers are smaller. Maybe Todd will post a pic of his P-gun's 16ga. barrel flats as well?

I spoke to the friend who had the 20ga Reproduction with only a 3 digit SN. He traded it to RHO about 2 months ago.

Correction on the 16ga bbls info ....28" M/IC

Bill Murphy 10-24-2023 06:10 AM

Obviously, there are exceptions to the P guns I have experienced. Yup, some of them are great guns.

A fabulous gun Todd - with the added double bonus of a straight grip and double triggers. What a dream gun!!

A beavertail would complete the picture of perfection for me.

I hope he got something better, and I'm sure in his world, he did.

Todd: you are probably aware of this, but the 20g barrel Birmingham Proof House date code is for 1986

What's the added screw in the forward lug for? Ejector stop?

Are you sure you're seeing a screw? If so, on which set of barrels are you seeing it on the forward lug?

David C Porter 10-25-2023 02:12 PM

Yes, there is a screw on the forward lug of the British proofed barrel. Ser # P00308. It may be a added ejector stop.

Dean Romig 10-25-2023 02:14 PM

Wrong location for a stop screw. PB put the ectractor stop screw just ahead of the rear lug.

Bill Murphy 10-25-2023 02:21 PM

I believe the "screw" may be a 1 stamp or some other figure that looks like a 1.

Greg Baehman 10-25-2023 03:01 PM

I believe what you're seeing is the letter "I", which is found on many Repros, just as the letter "F" has been found on some as well. Assumed to have been stamped by the factory for accounting purposes.

Shortly after posting the above, I’m now questioning whether I’m right or not. If I am correct then fine. But, what we’re actually questioning appears to simply be an “l” and not the letter “I”. Is it a different stamp for the same purpose or does it have a different meaning?

More mystery, more mystique.

I went into RHO today after shooting, and the NIB repro that a member friend traded in sold almost immediately. Ryan looked it up in the book and reported the SN as 00627. Then, a brief period of lucidity told me I actually listed the gun here:

https://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36256

and the photos I posted in that listing clearly shows the SN. No '20-xxxx' or P-xxxx, just numerals. I had never seen this before, nor have I seen another similar example since
