Brian Board or up in Maine Steve Dalzell.

I know Brian Dudley can do it but he’ll have to say how busy he may or may not be right now.

todd allen 10-10-2023 09:04 PM

I wonder if insurance will cover it?

Dean Romig 10-11-2023 09:43 AM

Call your insurance company…

.

William Woods 10-11-2023 11:51 AM

That's a shame. Good luck on your repair.

Buddy Marson 10-11-2023 11:57 AM

I would use Dennis Smith (The Stock Doctor) Phone (541) 483-2182. He also has a web site.

todd allen 10-11-2023 01:07 PM

Thanks Buddy, I got a referral from a friend, retired gunsmith Toby Leeds, and have spoken to Dennis. He sounds like a hell of a good guy.
He said that he might not be able to fix this one, but will take a look.
Worst case, I have a stock blank from Cecil Fredi that I have been sitting on for about 30 years, so if it's appropriate for this gun that's the way we will go.
BTW, I called my insurance agent's office, (State Farm) and they are temporarily down do to some sort of water emergency.

Did you fall with the gun or the gun fall over out of a rack?

todd allen 10-11-2023 02:17 PM

I store my guns muzzle down in the safe. This one tipped over out of the safe, and landed on the floor, which is ceramic tile.

Todd, is your H&H the gun in the OFF TOPIC forum that Jerry Lewis knocked off the gun rack?

todd allen 10-11-2023 02:42 PM

No, this happened last night at home.

john pulis 10-11-2023 03:06 PM

You might touch base with Dewey Vicknair in PA. He has repaired cracks like this. Good luck.

bruce a lyons 10-11-2023 04:11 PM

State Farm will not cover unless stolen or burned. At least that's what they told me.

Bruce there are to many unknown variables here for that broad approach to apply:
Was it written on a Form 3
Was it written on a Form 5
Was it scheduled:
If scheduled was it on a property or inland marine form
Was breakage coverage selected

And on and on and on. Any ways you get the picture....

Buddy Marson 10-11-2023 04:29 PM

Todd,
I've had Dennis restock my B grade Parker and his work is outstanding. You should be completely satisfied. Sorry about the break!

Ian Civco 10-11-2023 05:13 PM

I would contact Holland & Holland directly.

Allen Peterson 10-11-2023 05:24 PM

Since its a very nice H&H even if you get it glued back together it will bother you. Get it restocked to your personal dimensions. I know your pain.

todd allen 10-11-2023 07:47 PM

I have it booked for a restock with Dennis. The insurance company is not going to cover this, as it will be less than my deductible.
I am trying to look at this less as an accident, and more like an upgrade.
I think I need a go fund me account

Joseph Sheerin 10-12-2023 01:53 PM

Given it's an H&H I think I would be investing in a brand new stock, that is custom fit to order......

Joseph Sheerin 10-12-2023 01:55 PM

Also, it would have taken me a couple days to stop crying over that one.....

I recently bought a new Citori CXS white, the forend slipped out of my hands dinging the wood pretty good, I thought that was tough, Browning fixed it on them. Not sure how I'd take this event you suffered. My thoughts and prayers are with you.... :D

John Albano 10-12-2023 02:03 PM

Nice to see Browning step up and take care of you. They just got some great advertising. Great for both parties!

Phillip Carr 10-12-2023 02:29 PM

Another reason I have a separate gun insurance policy. Only a $500 deductible if this happens to me. Guns and Trophy covers the rest.

bob lyons 10-12-2023 08:24 PM

Question for the forum members, from a value or resale basis wouldn’t a new stock be much better?

Dean Romig 10-13-2023 07:57 AM

IMO, Only if it was done perfectly by an expert stockmaker to be difficult to discern from the original.

I finally worked up the nerve to take the locks off and have a look.
It appears that the original stock is repairable, which is good news for me, as money is tight, as well as (at 70 years of age) time left on earth.
The deciding factor was the condition of the wood between the action plates.
I have a friend who is a retired gunsmith, Toby Leeds, who has been quite a help in this time of need.

Alfred Greeson 10-13-2023 11:44 AM

Good luck, one beautiful gun.

Bill Murphy 10-13-2023 12:28 PM

I thought you had it booked with Dennis for a restock. Did I misread your post?

todd allen 10-13-2023 10:26 PM

Yes, it is booked with Dennis. The question now is whether it is a repair, or a restock.

Ian Civco 10-14-2023 04:41 AM

Why not contact Holland & Holland directly?

What’s the value of this shotgun?

allen newell 10-15-2023 12:22 PM

Todd, has Dennis quoted you the cost of a new stock? How much if I may ask? I'd rather see you restock it. If not and as I think Dean said, it will always be on your mind when you shoot it. If you decide to restock and are short on money, I'll help you out. Beautiful gun that needs a new whole stock.

todd allen 10-15-2023 01:20 PM

Thanks Allen.
I should probably go to PMs on prices, as I don't want to impact other gunsmiths on the site.

I would like to clarify this kinda awkward statement.
There are a wide range of pricing for restocking based on action type, grade, etc.
There are some very very good gunsmith/stockers here, with their own pricing models, and back-logs. Every job is different.
Their prices are their prices whether higher, lower, or the same.
Out of respect for these craftsmen I'd rather not throw numbers around on the Net.

Brian Dudley 10-16-2023 08:08 PM

Anyone who asks questions like that is not serious anyway, if they really wanted to know they would ask the craftsman themselves directly.

todd allen 10-16-2023 10:32 PM

A couple of members have reached out to me via PM, but so far it has been more to console me over the hit this has been on my meager collection.
There has been some discussion on pricing, but all very subjective regarding work that needs to be done on various projects. All spoken in confidentiality.
We have a very classy brotherhood here. I'm impressed.

Ian Civco 10-17-2023 03:15 AM

Why wouldn’t you contact Holland & Holland directly about this and have them do the work?

Time for an update:
I'm getting old, live on a fixed income, and didn't want to spend the time and money, so opted to fix it myself.
Ordered some hi tech epoxy, (West System) set up a work station in my office, and went for it.
I have a background in auto collision and paint, and wood working, so what the heck.
Here's some pics:
