2023 Grand American

Headed out early tomorrow for Illinois and the Grand American. If any of you are there, hope to see you. I’ll be on the lookout for Randy Davis and J. Scott Hanes. 229-938-6085.

Randy G Roberts 08-07-2023 09:13 PM

Shoot straight brother, best of luck to you. Last I heard the Northern IN Gun Cartel rep from Valpo was gonna be there :)

Jim DiSpagno 08-07-2023 10:41 PM

Good Luck John. Bring home some trophies.

Bill Murphy 08-07-2023 11:00 PM

John, it looks like the score lookup feature on the ATA site is searched by event rather than by shooter's name. Let us know what events you sign up to shoot so we can keep tabs on your scores. Good luck to all PGCA shooters.

CraigThompson 08-07-2023 11:00 PM

Good luck sir !

John Davis 08-08-2023 05:55 AM

Bill, I’m definitely shooting the Singles Championship on Thursday, Doubles Championship and preliminary handicap on Friday and the Grand American Handicap on Saturday. Possibly the Doubles event on Wednesday but as of now the weather is looking pretty bad.

John Davis 08-08-2023 06:04 AM

The line up for this year is as follows:

Singles - Parker SA SBT.
Handicap- Parker SAA SBT, upgrade.
Doubles- Parker DHE.

Daryl Corona 08-08-2023 06:08 AM

Maintain your focus, good luck and safe travels.

Stan Hoover 08-08-2023 06:12 AM

Good Luck John,

I'm sure you will do well!!

One of these years I will make it out there:rolleyes:

Stan

Garry L Gordon 08-08-2023 08:39 AM

Good shooting, John! And enjoy your time there.

Mills Morrison 08-08-2023 09:46 AM

Good luck! We're all pulling for you.

John Davis 08-09-2023 08:13 PM

Despite threatening rain storms and a brisk wind, it was a pretty good start to the Grand. Shot the preliminary handicap and doubles events. The SAA put up a 94x100 in handicap and the DHE went 95x100 in doubles. Next up, the SA tackles the 200 bird Singles Championship event tomorrow.

Randy G Roberts 08-09-2023 08:24 PM

Good shooting. Now lay off the partying and get some rest you rebel.

Mike Koneski 08-10-2023 10:14 AM

"Diesel smoke" them all John!! BLING is the thing.

Gary Carmichael Sr 08-10-2023 11:26 AM

John best of luck! I understand you shoot about 25,000 rds per year, go get them John! Gary

John Davis 08-10-2023 06:20 PM

Another decent day at the Grand. The SA managed to bag a pair of 99’s in the Singles Championship for a final score of 198x200. Unfortunately that won’t even garner an honorable mention. But it was fun.

Bill Murphy 08-11-2023 06:41 AM

Great shooting, John.

John Davis 08-11-2023 03:59 PM

There was one lone side x side in the Doubles Championship today. It was a Parker DHE, 30 inch barrels, BTF, Straight grip stock, double triggers, choked IM/Full. It turned in a pair of 48’s for a total score of 96x100. Grand American Handicap tomorrow.

Bill Davis 08-11-2023 05:32 PM

It’s really nice to hear about your shooting at the Grand American with vintage Parker’s! I appreciate you sharing your Grand experience. I attended for the Grand for 25 years in Vandalia and it was a wonderful place!

John are you at the back fence in handicap ? Regardless best of luck and skill

John Davis 08-11-2023 07:32 PM

My handicap is 24.5, so I’m shooting from the 24.

Bill Murphy 08-11-2023 07:49 PM

Hey, Hey, Hey, the 24. Almost at your feet. Good luck.

John Davis 08-12-2023 02:36 PM

Shot a 96x100 in the Grand American Handicap and picked up a half yard punch. SAA is now on the 25 yard line.

Finished up the HAA with a 390x400. And a total target count of 671x700 or 95.86%.

Nothing shoots like a Parker.

BLING?

John Davis 08-12-2023 04:39 PM

No bling. But close. Which only counts in horseshoes.

And hand grenades. Looks like we can add American Trap to that saying now.:)
Very impressive shooting John.

John Davis 08-12-2023 04:51 PM

I missed the shoot off for a HAA SubVet placement by two birds.

Garry L Gordon 08-12-2023 04:52 PM

A noteworthy and impressive performance!

Bill Davis 08-12-2023 04:57 PM

Congratulations John Davis! Well done…….Bill Davis

Bill Murphy 08-12-2023 05:23 PM

John, now you have to learn the trick that I learned. You have to get older, fast, and get to be a Veteran or Super Veteran and you won't have to break so many birds to win. I don't know what I am in ATA competition, but it's near the top age group. You'll be there soon. :):)

John Davis 08-12-2023 11:34 PM

I'll be a Veteran next April, just in time for the Georgia State Shoot.

Randy Davis 08-13-2023 10:46 PM

John... Great Shooting! It was good to see you. With those scores a person would expect a trophy... As we know, at The Grand when there are 58 200`s and 110 199`s in the singles, 100 straight & a boat load of 99`s in the Handicap it`s a tough sport...

RD

John Davis 08-14-2023 05:39 AM

Randy, great to see you and your brother. We’ll get them next year.

Bill... in ATA you would classify, Senior Vet... many tough old shooters in that class too!

J. Scott Hanes 08-15-2023 12:18 AM

I so enjoyed having lunch with you, John, and getting to know you. Happy you shot well; there are MANY who didn't!! Thanks for your insights and see you down the road.
