Did all hammered Parkers have Damascus barrels?
Pretty simple question.
Did all hammered Parkers have Damascus barrels? Anyone know the answer? |
The short answer is, No.
There are some fluid steel Parker hammer guns, I’m not sure of the amount or how many years they were offered, but from my experience, they are on the rare side. |
steel barreled hammer guns
my research indicates that at least 35 hammer guns were originally manufactured by Parker Bros. with fluid steel barrels.
The earliest that I have found is 84749 (1896) and the latest being 208332 (1924) |

Wow! Thirty Five! That's... As rare as hen's teeth. I guess I'll never own one of those. Even if I can find one, they probably are prohibitively expensive. Still, it's nice to know about. |
Rare like rocking horse droppings.
I have physically seen and handled at least 2 of them that I can remember. A D grade and a AA. |
Benard, laminated, twist, stub twist, Damascus, fluid, pretty much all available styles depending upon years of manufacture.

A steel barrel 20 gauge hammer gun is probably the rarest Gary

I don't know that it is... You have 1 of 7 known AA hammer guns made and yours was made with fluid steel barrels, Whitworth if I'm not mistaken?... with 2 additional factory-installed sets of Titanic Steel, right? . |

David I would love to see some photos of that fine gun! Gary
|
David, Do you have a letter on the gun? I would love to see it!
Wayne |
Yup, you’re absolutely right Gary…
Brain fart on my part. . |
Parker Bros. introduced their highest grade hammer guns, the Quality AA with Whitworth Fluid Steel barrels, while at Ithaca and L.C. Smith their lowest grade hammer guns came with steel barrels.

The stock has incorrect shaped drop points. The forend does not have the thru-bolt. Double triggers. The front trigger fires the more open choked left barrel, the rear obviously fires the tighter right barrel. Serial number 96086 . Not in the serialization book and no records with PGCA. Here are some pictures: |

That as Dean said is a very nice gun, any one would be proud to own it! Gary

The drop points be dammed. Youd have to be a fool to not want to have that fine hammer gun in your collection. Very nice indeed
