Alabama State Trap Shoot

1 Attachment(s)
Just finished up with the Alabama State Trap Shoot which took place June 1-4, 2023, at the Dixie Trap and Skeet Club in Matthews, Ala. Lots of Perazzis, Kolars, Kreighoffs, Caesar Guerinis, Berrettas and Brownings. And three lone Parkers.

I began the tournament in Class A singles, 24.5 yard handicap and Class A doubles. I was shooting my Parker SA SBT in the singles events, my Parker SAA SBT upgrade in the handicap events and my newly acquired Parker DHE trap gun in the doubles events. On the first day of the tournament I won Champion in the singles event, which bumped me to Class AA for the remainder of the tournament. And I won Class A in the doubles event, which there again bumped me into Class AA for the remainder of the tournament.

Parker victories included the following:

Event 1, Singles, Champion, 99x100.
Event 2, Handicap, 23 to 24.5 yardage group, 94x100.
Event 3, Doubles, Class A champion. 94x100.
Event 5, Handicap, 23 to 24.5 yardage group, 90x100.
Event 7, Alabama State Singles Championship, Nonresident, Class AA champion, 195x200. This win required a shoot off for a three way tie. The Parker SA went 50 straight to take the honors. The other two contestants went 23 and 48 respectively.
Event 8, Alabama State Doubles Championship, Nonresident, Class AA champion, 93x100.

The three Parkers also won Class AA Nonresident High All Around with a cumulative score of 378x400.

And although no bling to show for it, the three Parkers finished second in Nonresident High Over All, with a total target count of 940x1000. The Champion won it with 943x1000.

The road goes on forever and the party never ends.

Congratulations John!

John way 2 go!!! Great job!

John Davis 06-05-2023 07:39 AM

Special thanks to Larry Frey and all of those who passed on the DHE he recently had for sale. With its 30 inch barrels, BTFE, high POI and IM/F chokes, it has proven to be an incredible doubles trap gun. And the double triggers just blows the other trap shooters’ minds. Too much fun.

Buddy Marson 06-05-2023 08:14 AM

Outstanding! Congratulations Champ!

Dan Steingraber 06-05-2023 08:52 AM

Congratulations Sir. You are incredibly talented. And a Robert Earl Keen lyric for bonus.

Alabama State Trap Shoot

John, Have you considered participating in the Grand American?

J. Scott Hanes 06-05-2023 09:15 AM

Congratulations, John. You are eventually going to convince other shooters to look for a "new" Parker if you keep beating their butts like you are! Keep it up!

Destry L. Hoffard 06-05-2023 09:25 AM

Excellent

I have shot in the last 4 Grand Americans. The past two years I shot in the Champion of Champions event and two years ago I won World Championship Doubles, Class D. All with Parker Brothers shot guns.

Larry Stauch 06-05-2023 10:17 AM

Champion!!

Great shooting John and congratulations on all your success with the Parkers!

Chuck Bishop 06-05-2023 10:24 AM

My hero! Congratulations John.

Bill Davis 06-05-2023 10:45 AM

John—take it from another Davis who shot trap for many years and attended the Grand 25 times—dominating all 3 types of events so convincingly is extra special and doing it with vintage shotguns is icing on the cake! Bravo! Well done………

Garry L Gordon 06-05-2023 11:13 AM

Congratulations, John! What a testament to not only your skill, but also your preparation and dedication.

John Davis 06-05-2023 11:24 AM

Gary, all the glory belongs to God and Parker Brothers.

Craig, North Carolina State shoot is next weekend and as much as I would love to go I'm just not sure I've got any gas left in the tank at the moment. Next shoot on my calendar is the Southern Zone Shoot in Kentucky. That will be July 21 to 23. They say they throw beautiful targets that look like trash can lids. They also say there are little green men on Mars.

Come to Winchester VA for the state shot if memory serves that’s around 7/4 .

Craig, I've seriously considered the WVA State Shoot and the VA State Shoot, both in Winchester. They're the last of June and first of July. Don't think I can work it out this year but maybe next.

John if I’m not mistaken the MD state in Thurmont and the PA state in Elysburg fall in following or preceding weekends as well. If a person were of mind to do so it’d be kinda neat to eventually shoot all fifty state shoots . Suspect that would take a ten year concerted effort !

Mike Franzen 06-05-2023 11:46 PM

You are the Tom Brady of trapshooting. Its amazing what you are doing.

Daryl Corona 06-06-2023 08:15 AM

Way to go John! Your dedication with the Parker gun is truly an inspiration.

Michael Moffa 06-07-2023 10:02 PM

Sir, very nicely done!

Brian Dudley 06-08-2023 07:24 AM

It is good to hear you were shooting the SA

John, You make the Parker Gun enthusiast proud! Gary

Jim DiSpagno 06-09-2023 11:25 AM

Way to go John. Truly outstanding marksmanship

Bill Murphy 06-09-2023 12:36 PM

I'm up for a squad at a MD, VA or WVA State Shoot any time that John can get a Parker squad together. I'm not able to shoot many events but I would do the singles, maybe the doubles. My ATA membership is long gone, so I couldn't do the handicap events. Maryland, at least, is very fussy about minimums for class and handicap yardage, so new shooters are at a disadvantage. Sign me up, John. All three shoots are commuting distance for me.

They had a non registered 50 bird SxS singles event at the VA State a couple years , Danny Patton won it the second year with a 48 or 49 . But I dunno if they even do it any longer .

Joe Graziano 06-15-2023 07:50 AM

Congratulations, John! I used to shoot a lot of ATA. The competition is fierce. You have a table full of trophies to show for your ability to hang tough for several days. Well done!

Dean Romig 06-15-2023 06:22 PM
