Saw an interesting gun at the LGS. Asking $4,500. What do you think?

12ga, D-grade, 32in barrels F/F, straight stock, double triggers, BTFE, 2 frame 8lb 4oz

14in LOP over vintage pad, 2.5 dah, screws good, on face, barrels ring nicely, good case color, small chips at rear of fore end, ding in drop point, some scratches (discoloration) in barrel blue.

I like it as it’s configured just like a 12ga SS Repro I have.. :)

Looks to have had some work over the years. The forearm isn't correct. Barrels have been re-blued and the case colors have been re-done as well imho. But pics can be misleading.

Thanks, great to have input here. Is it possible to find a forearm? I might still be interested at the right price..

It would be interesting to see who the original owner of that one was.

Case colors look original to me.

What we can see of the forend looks original to me but may have had the checkering recut.

Looks like a pretty decent gun to me. If it fit me and I liked it, I’d probably go home with it.

One of my beavertail guns.

I'd like to see the whole forend; looks like it comes almost straight out ahead of the action. Looks weird to me but what do I know?

Brian Dudley 05-04-2023 07:54 PM

The forend is completely right. It is a nice gun.

Here’s another pic showing part of the forearm.

There seems to be a lot of variation in the rear two-inches of Parker beavertail forearms. From a 1922 Parker Bros. catalog when the beavertail was only offered in 12-gauge --

From the 1938 Remington era catalog --

The abbreviated picture of the forend looks quite original. The case colors can't be evaluated from the small area we see in the picture. That said, I like them.

Here’s a pic of the whole gun next to my Repro SSS that is in the process of being re-stocked along with a better pic of the forend.

Brian Dudley 05-07-2023 04:00 PM

There are at least 3 distinct different styles of Parker beavertail forends. This one is one of them.

Mark Conrad 05-10-2023 08:30 AM

It’s an early style forend. As time passed PB changed the shape and checkering patterns. Nice gun.
