Good Luck Team Parker

I know many of you will be headed for North Carolina in the next couple of days to attend the Southern Side x Side. Unfortunately I won’t be there as it once again directly conflicts with the Georgia State Trap Shoot, where at least three Parkers will make a run for the money. Hope everyone has a great time at the Southern and the weather cooperates. And good luck to the folks who make team Parker, bring home that trophy!

Remember this: If you don't miss anything, nobody can beat you.

Michael Moffa 04-30-2023 09:57 PM

John, how did you do at the Georgia State Shoot?

It was challenging. Soaking rain, 15 to 20 mph winds with 30 mph gusts. And then blue bird days. Crazy. But you have to take the good with the bad. I shot my Parker SA in the singles events, my SAA upgrade in the handicap and my GHE in doubles. Although I've shot much better scores in the past, I still managed to come home with some bling.

I won a preliminary handicap event with 95X100 and a shoot off. Picked up a 1 yard punch.

Won A class in the State Doubles Championship.

Won A class High All Around.

Won A class High Over All.

Also made the State Team for the third year in row, finishing with the third highest 2022 blended average (singles, handicap and doubles) in the state. All while shooting the Parker shotgun, exclusively.

CraigThompson 05-01-2023 12:07 AM

Congratulations John !!!!!

Mark Conrad 05-01-2023 07:47 AM

Congrats John, we really missed not having you at the Southern. The banquet was very nice and Louis Parker’s comments were special.

Reggie Bishop 05-01-2023 08:23 AM

Randy G Roberts 05-01-2023 08:39 AM

CraigThompson 05-01-2023 04:27 PM

John does this mean you qualified for Champion of Champions at the Grand this year ?

John Davis 05-01-2023 05:35 PM

Not this year unfortunately.

charlie cleveland 05-01-2023 08:21 PM

way to go john...you are living the dream.....charlie

J. Scott Hanes 05-02-2023 12:57 AM

Congratulations, John, on your successful shoot. Planning to travel to any other shoots this year? Using three different guns is a wonderful feat. Hope to see you in Sparta again.

John Davis 05-02-2023 07:47 AM

Scott, definitely have the Grand on the calendar. Also looking hard at the Southern Zone shoot in KY and considering maybe a couple of other State shoots. Just really hoping it’s a while before I have to shoot in those conditions again. It was humbling and didn’t help my averages none.

John Davis 05-02-2023 08:30 AM

And as to the three guns. I suppose most folks have two barrel sets, with adjustable ribs, combs and multiple chokes. I just swap guns. Makes it simpler for me and fortunately they all fit me pretty well.

Garry L Gordon 05-02-2023 09:46 AM

John, I'm sure if Parker Brothers was still in business, they'd hire you as their rep. like the other famous trap shooters they hired to represent them.

You do all of us who love old guns, especially Parkers, proud with your fine shooting.

Good luck this summer.

John Davis 05-02-2023 10:15 AM

If I had to travel as much as Tucker and du Bray, my wife would divorce me and take all of my guns.

Bill Murphy 05-02-2023 10:26 AM

John, for your information, NSSA does not police entries in the Champion of Champions event at the World Shoot. Participants are supposed to be AA or AAA in all guns or have won a state title. I have shot the C of C in every World Shoot I have attended and was never questioned about my qualifications. I hope this information helps you with C of C at the Grand. Maybe you can slip in to the event just by signing up and paying the entry fee.

John Davis 05-02-2023 10:58 AM

Bil, unfortunately the ATA doesn’t work that way. To qualify for the C of C you have to be that year’s State Singles Champion (or runner up, if the champ doesn’t show up) or a State category champion (Jr., SubVet, Vet, Sr Vet, etc.). I’ve been fortunate enough to shoot in the Champion of Champions event the last two years as State Champion and State SubVet champion, respectively. Maybe once again next year, when I move in to the Vet category?

John Davis 05-02-2023 11:03 AM

As a side note of possible interest, none of my guns have a front bead sight. I’m a notorious bead checker.

Hmmm...I'm not sure I've ever seen a bead when the bird gets up, but if I every start looking, I may also have them removed.
