Monster Ithaca 10 gauge
 

I was lucky enough to have picked up this waterfowler of the past. The condition of this gun is impressive, so I thought I would share some pictures with fellow gun lovers. It is a grade #2 Ithaca 10 gauge with 3" chambers and 32" Damascus barrels. The gun was so heavy it bottomed out may little digital scale, so I had to weigh it in pieces. The barrels weigh 7 pounds 9.6 ounces and the whole gun weighs 12 pounds 3 ounces. It's not what I would call a wand in the hands. The barrel wall thickness is truly impressive and the Damascus pattern is still relatively clear and vivid as is the case colors on the receiver. It was made in 1916 during the Flues era.

Just a wonderful gun. Could those barrels be ANY thicker?!

I had an NID grade 2 10 that was thick in the muzzles but I’m
not sure it had that much meat !

The barrel flats are marked 4/4 or full/full. Although, I haven't actually measured them.

I have a parker 10 ga with 30 inch barrels with 3 1/2 inch chambers the barrels are thick like your gun and its barrels weigh 7 lbs 14 ounce....you have a good turkey gun....charlie

Shoot that at paper and you should be impressed by the patterns ithaca 10s shoot. They make a great 10.

The pad gave out under the weight of that thing a long time ago.

I believe those barrels possibly put some of my Ithaca Magnum barrels to shame, I sometimes refer to them as schedule 40 pipe.:cool:

The engraving on this gun is different than mine. Looking through the Ithaca book I haven't seen one that matches the engraving on the sides or the flower like engraving on the bottom of the gun I posted.

Nice little peashooter, bet it's choked tighter than an owl's butt, wouldnt do anything with it other than find a vintage ITHACA pad for it.

Actually yes lol I seen a Ithaca hammer gun in 10 ga with 3/8" breech walls I believe it was. It seems Ithaca made some 8 gauge sized frames just never chambered in 8 ga sadly.

That gun is way too early for any Ithaca recoil pad. Needs a Silvers.

I have a brand new Silvers pad in the packaging. It’s a huge pad, I bet it would fit that beast!

I'm familiar with that particular Ithaca, Mills, and saw it very recently. I'm happy it went to you.

From what I understand, the larger gauge Flues guns don't suffer the frame breakage that seems to plague the smaller gauges. Is the frame breakage in the small gauges a rumor or is it for real? The pictured ten is a wonderful gun.

I may be wrong but, I believe it was the earlier small gauge guns that had the cracking problem. Supposedly, after several of these came to light, Ithaca made the frames a little beefier. I have a 20 ga. with 28" twist barrels made in 1910 that is really pretty light. The underside of the barrels are stamped "Nitro Powder Proved". So far the only shells I've fired in it have been Gamebore 24 gram (less than 7/8 oz) black powder shells; it's been good so far.

Eightbore seems to be fishing for me to post my set of fall 1932 letters about the 1921 vintage Flues No. 4 10-gauge, 350977, with a frame cracked on both sides.

I have been known to hunt, but don't fish.

the only thing that is going to crack with the Ithaca NID Mag 10 is the shooters back

Ha! The head of the stock on mine has enough glass in it now to hopefully prove that correct. It was beaten up pretty badly

Recoil pad
 

I had the worn out recoil pad replaced with a vintage Silvers pad. I want to thank Reggie Bishop for allowing me to buy the pad from him. It has to be the biggest pad ever made and it was fit to the gun by our local guy; who incidentally does a fantastic job and turned it around in 3 days.

I know there was no spur on the pad backer, but maybe Reggie can answer about the exact style.

I do not recall the size. 4 or 5 I think. I think there was a spur that was easily sanded off for applications not requiring the spur. At least that what I remember.
