Parker GH refinish

I was looking at the William Larkin Moore web site and saw a parker GH for sale that was listed as a Del Grego refinish. The wood on the gun does not look like G grade (pretty plain), and the case color looks different. Also the 2 of the reciever screws do not appear to be oriented correctly. Years ago I had Del Grego refinish my old 16 gauge VH and it came back perfect. Is this a Del Grego refinish or something else. Please advise. Thanks BW

How does WLM know it's a Del Grego refinish?

Bill Murphy 03-17-2011 09:31 AM

The gun looks like it is either original or recolored by bone and charcoal method rather than by the cyanide method by Del Grego. Considering that it is a #1 frame gun with steel barrels and in high condition, it looks like it is priced right and may be a nice buy. I understand, however, that Del Grego will subcontract a gun to have bone and charcoal on request.

Gone now, or I'm not looking in the right place.

It's still there.

Checkering pattern on forend looks like the pattern for a V or P grade to me.

Dean Romig 03-17-2011 12:51 PM

Thanks Pete. I agree about the forend checkering pattern.

Bill Murphy 03-17-2011 03:15 PM

Yup, but it still looks like a nice gun. High condition if original finish. Case color not like anything I have seen come out of Del Grego's shop. Hey, it's a late #1 frame gun with 28" barrels.

Dean Romig 03-17-2011 03:56 PM

To me it looks more like a DTR refinish.

Or some other "good guy".

Mike Poindexter 03-17-2011 11:02 PM

Not only the forend, but the grip checkering is a VH pattern as well. Also, the wood is pretty plain for a GH. Wonder if removing the triggerguard would add to the mystery.

It's a gorgeous gun regardless! I sure don't have one with colors like that. Affordable too. If it's recolored it looks like they didn't warp the floorplate as some do.

Thats not the only GH with VH checkering. Ser# 143623, a lettered 2bbl set also has the VH checkering on the grip and both forarms.

Dean Romig 03-18-2011 08:00 AM

Gordon, is there anything in the letter about the checkering?

gordon smith 03-18-2011 08:25 AM

Dean; Nothing in letter about checkering. Was ordered by E,K, Tryon Co. Both bbls 30" and both weigh the same. One mod and full and one cyl and mod.
